Petered out but reincarnated as Rust & Royal.

This business has changed its name to Rust & Royal I don't know if it's also a change of owner or management but the inside has been completely refitted, not least the fancy bar which now faced straight out through double doors to the fenced and umbrella roofed seating area on the old cobbled road offering a few across the dock and along the street at all the other drinking places.

Fast & Royal has its own TripAdvisor listing.

CLOSED May '17 - plans for 'Swanky cocktail bar'
Jul 2017 • Solo
Black Jack's hasn't been much fun for a long time. It died a death at the end of Spring and no one knew what the plans were for it until a press release a few days ago to the effect that the space is to be turned into a 'posh' new bar specialising in cocktail but also wines etc with some light snacks eg platters of olives etc apparently catering for smart groups and couples. The new name or maybe the working title Is Rust and Royal but the defivation of that is so far Unknown. The developers hope to reopen in August or not long after. Plymouth has a couple of good cocktail bars and several mediocre ones not so far off. The novelty is losing its lustre. The R&R scheme doesn't sound that inspiring but good luck to them. Meanwhile there are lots of places to drink around this corner of Sutton Harbour.

Very ordinary quayside bar.

Little to choose between this one and it's neighbour across the lane - the Ciderpress. Black Jacks is a shoulder to shoulder stand up bar with not much to offer other than that it is amongst all the other bars. Dozens of lads and girls usually 20 - 35 coagulate on the pavement and by the tented enclosures. I presume this outside area is where a lot of pairing off occurs before most move on to clubs.

Not quite schmoozy enough.

oK place. Bit rough and heavy testosterone. Bit down market. Touch too many over fuelled lads from 25-35. Not very good hunting ground unless you need a same night conclusion.

Routine a Barbican Fun Bar
Oct 2013 • Friends
Set in the midst of the row of outdoor tented 'Chav Pens' on the Parade on Plymouth's Barbican this place is very much like the other six or so. A decked covered area outside on the cobbles, almost indistinguishable from all the rest. Music inside and out from time to time. Can get hectic but there are generally volumes of patrolling uniformed police should trouble threaten. Has an upbeat website with some skilfully taken photos. Brought here once by a work mate and have passed by hundreds of times. Loud. Wouldn't be my choice amongst the huge number of Barbican options.
