About
The original and best alternative pub in Plymouth. We're known for using local breweries for our real ales and we have been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide on numerous occasions. If that's not your thing we also have a good range of spirits, a couple of wine offerings, the occasional soft drink and plenty of great company to see you through the evening. Every Thursday, and some Saturdays, we push back our pool table and play host to a variety of local live music acts. Although we're a punk pub at heart we love putting on a variety of acts, from folk to metal as well as everything in between! We never charge entry, but you'll be asked for a donation for the band. We love seeing our well behaved furry friends in the pub, but usually ask that they stay outside while bands are on or if the pub is very busy. If it sounds like fun to you, then its time to 'Go Nowhere. Be Nobody'!

Like drinking in my own living room!

Very friendly, welcoming staff with a real locals atmosphere. Great music and a fine selection of drinks. Went for Quiz and was nice to see the barman keep the non playing punters in check. Been to far too many pub quizzes where I couldn't hear the questions! Go Nowhere and Be Nobody

My first time at a music event at The Nowhere and really enjoyed it, friendly crowd with a happy feel to the atmosphere. Bar staff and management attentive and polite with sensible bar prices, I enjoy live music and visit the various local venues and this one is up there with the rest.

Look forward to visiting again soon

Very poor.

My partner and I have been in the Nowhere Inn many times in the past and always had an enjoyable time while feeling welcome. But after being screamed at by an owner who wasn't getting the attention he desired I have to say this place is now awful.
Here is some context, I arrived and met some close friends of mine, ordered a drink and stood talking amongst ourselves by the bar. We weren't being belligerent or loud and obnoxious, just chatting away when all of a sudden the owner (who was hosting a quiz in the main "stage" area of the pub) screamed like a wounded 5 year old until we silenced, as you would when you hear a fully grown man screech like a privileged banshee who lost their beloved toy, then he carried on with his quiz.
A few sly quips about people interrupting him later the quiz ended followed by a sneaky elbow nudge as he walked by, that's when we called it a night and decided to leave.
All in all, a good pub ruined by the ego of an owner/manager/man child.

July ‘20 Appears not to be reopening.
Jul 2020
It’s the week after 4th July. There are no signs of The Nowhere being ready to reopen. There is a To Let sign up. A broken front window has gone unrelated and the inside is a mess. We all have happy memories and hope that this idiosyncratic and seductive boozer may rise from the ashes yet again.

Seems to be looking up.
Dec 2019
Been in a few times over last couple of months. Some quiet evenings but some with crowds and live music. High point 29 December, part birthday but hoards had turned out for the lively and entertaining Butt Plug Babies. Not to be missed.usually a schedule on Facebook and we’re beginning to see flyers around the town once more.

Grungy and scuzzy dive

The title does it a disservice, but I meant it in a positive way; that's the sort of place I like.

I saw an event page for a guy celebrating his 51st birthday here with some punk and rockabilly bands playing, and as it was my birthday too (and I was by chance in town) we decided to go along.

Apparently it's quite a well-known music pub, and had been closed for a while over the end of summer, but seems to have a good reputation.

It's quite a small building, a little bit shabby and with a huge mural on the lefthand wall, and probably holds only about 100 people when there is a gig, and while it was not full, it was still quite difficult to watch the bands to due to the low/non-existent stage. Nevertheless, it was a great, friendly vibe; the staff were friendly (I think 2 of them were the owners) and several punters chatted to us, including one drunken fellow wearing a Virus t-shirt and carrying a bottomless bag of salty peanuts that he was handing out to all and sundry. Initially, I thought he was mentioning his salty penis, but as a band called Butt Plug Babies was making a rowdy racket in the background it was hard to hear.

A fun night with a great vibe and even my wife who prefers something a bit more upmarket was thoroughly entertained.

Closed for a while and now reopened with new management.
Oct 2019
After the sad death of landlord Phil the pub carried on for a bit but then closed during the summer. But it reopened without warning in early September with new management and faces.

We’ve been coming to the Nowhere for decades, enjoyed the eccentric feel, the interesting mixture of booze, the regular live bands and very different folk sessions. There was a pool table and a renown juke box. Set in the midst of a dense area of student accommodation it somehow never seemed draw on potential student drinkers. It was an exceptional place and we all mourned the closure.

But it’s now been reopened for a few weeks. There been some repainting on the outside, a lot on the inside, the pool table has gone as has the old juke box. There is extra seating and tables. The keg storage area has been massively improved, the gents interior has some of its graffiti removed and the front pub windows have been replaced with clear glass and are awaiting ‘curtains’. Opening times have been adjusted. Live music is back, particularly Thursdays, like last night which was entertaining. Perhaps the biggest change is the well publicised play being made to attract student trade. It’s too early to say how things will go but the Nowhere is back in earnest and we don’t yet know how much the character may or may not change abruptly or over time.

The photos I uploaded of the most obvious interior adjustments seem to have been, at least temporarily, deleted, which is a pity.

Mixed evolution.

An encouraging selection of tasty but unheard of ales from West Country ales but a disappointing array of rules posted inside on the back of the door.

Traditional, legendary in Plymouth, good if you like character and if you want something different on the juke box

The Nowhere Inn is amazing if you like good beer, interesting characters, have a varied bit not poppy taste in music, and don't want a lot of chrome and glass - don't come here for cocktails, do come if you want interesting conversation
