Awful. Bad hygiene and staff not checking on members around the pool and jacuzzi areas.
Jun 2021 • Solo
Management should check that certain members do not urinate in the jacuzzi pool and shower areas.
Even after restrictions are signposted, blatant rule breaking is taking place in this club.
When you notice a horrible urine smell in the pool side shower area and observe a thick white foam in the jacuzzi. The excess foam is a reaction when people urinate in the chlorine.
Over 20 Turkish young men have been recently frequenting Nuffield at Barbican Leisure Park and jumping in the pool, urinating in the facilities.
So glad to not have to put up with the lapse hygiene and poor standards. High membership charge for bad standards.
Note to Management. Brush up on your hygiene standards and check how many members go into the pool per lane.
Filthy dirty members urinating in jacuzzi and other public areas.

Nuffield wealth

Excellent gym, friendly reception and pt's I met, lush jacuzzi and sauna, showers are nice and hot!
only not a 5 star as the steam room could do with more steam, gym could do with some heavier kettlebells upto 30kg at least like most gyms and decent Reebok steps for doing exercises off instead of the cheap ones they have and most of all I got frustrated with playing the game "hunt for the 20kg plates" which took at least 5 mins off my workout as the plates in gym are such a mess both times I've been in to use the place. Would still choose this gym over budget gyms though.

UPDATE:

Having being diagnosed with an illness yrs ago which has had an detrimental effect on my hormones, I recently sought support and advice from the PT Alison Willis who has been amazing and so understanding and thorough with her lifestyle and nutritional advice being that she is a fully qualified nutritionist I have found her help invaluable and recommend her to anyone seeking to improve all aspects of their health and fitness

Nuffield not Cannons!

This is my local gym and I have been using it on and off for several years. As a gym it is average, there are decent machines and if you time it right plenty of room in the free-weight area. The highlight for me is the use of the jacuzzi and steam room, though both are prone to "Maintenance" and breaking down. Customer service is not great, there are some gems and genuine folk working there, however on the desk most struggle with a greeting and the instructors seem to spend most of their day stood at the top of the stairs chatting, I have seem very little interaction with the people using the gym, as a result I see a lot of misuse of the equipment, which could lead to folk injuring themselves, normally I or another gym user would help out. The gym is over subscribed, and is packed to the degree you cannot have a decent session or use the jacuzzi etc. This facility is average at best, though it has the potential to be amazing. I go at 6am, and the buzz is fantastic. Saying that if the price increases again, I will look elsewhere.

Worse Gym ever - Nuffield Manchester
Mar 2016 • Solo
1- I had a 3 months contract which suppose to end if I don't renew it ( As everywhere else in the world) yet it was spontaneous renewal. i was paying without knowing that the contract was renewed

2- I would expect your employee to explain this condition for me when I registered because it is considered as the most important info for any participant especially if I am not an English native speaker.

3- Even when I read the conditions which written in the contact in a very small font ,, I didn't know that what is meant - So hard to understand them by my own

4- I asked the employer I am the first one with this problem and she said NO Not the first one ... So many already faced this problem and in future many will face it as well ,, Don't you think proper explanation is needed for this condition?

5- I would expect at least an email from Nuffield notifying me that my contact has been renewed (So I will not pay without even using the facility) - this is the least thing you could do.

6- I came 2 days ago to cancel the membership yet the employer said I cant do this - I need to give a notice of one calender month - I think this is very unfair when I registered you did not ask me to wait until the next calender month but accepted me but when I leave I have to wait for a one calendar month. what justification for this !!

7- The response I got from them was even worse

8- Over priced gym

Upgraded disappointment
Nov 2013 • Friends
Joined this club about a year ago and although agreed with the comments about poor ventilation I enjoyed the classes and the general feel of the place. A group of us would meet before hand to catch up however someone in there wisdom has decided to remove 80% of the coffee area. Only a few chair remain so gone is the chance to enjoy a chat with friends before of after a class. Just when every other gym sees the need for a social area, Nuffield takes it away. Totally daft. Looks like its a drive up to the Devonshire for us now.

Big investment in some parts but not others
Nov 2013
Nuffield have Just refurbished the gyms and studios but the pool is tired, the tiles underwater don't look they ever been cleaned. Spa on a par with a council facility. That said there is good range of classes, good changing rooms, reasonable size gym which has just been totally refurbished. The class instructors need to change their approach to new class members not engaging in full on choreography with no tuition for new people, It's dispiriting. This is overall a good value gym that could do better to be an excellent facility. No excuse for pool in that state in a private club but the refurbishment of the rest makes this a good option if you can't afford the Devonshire or don't want to travel up there.

Fitness and Welbeing Centre should not be considered just as a“Gym”
Oct 2013 • Friends
First Nuffield Fitness and Welbeing Centre should not be considered just as a“Gym” Yep it has the main floor with plenty of equipment, just being upgraded again by the way, weights of all sizes. It also has as its main assets, the helpful friendly staff, who are always happy to offer advice and encouragement.

They also have of plenty of group classes, again taken by friendly helpful instructors. These range from high impact to yoga.

I work full time the other side of Plymouth and I still manage to get to all the classes I need, ( and that is a lot).

As well as the fitness, advice on all aspect of fitness and welbeing, including diet and nutrition. Is available.

Nuffield also offer all members their Health MOT. This is included in the membership fee and is a fantastic facility to check your health and fitness h and then track your progress and improvement.

Added to this, there is the pool, and its facilities.

There are always offers such as open days, free day passes, bring a fiend weekend so it my son and I can often take non member freinds / family along.

The down side is the air con n the summer. It is bad during periods of hot weather, but for the value, benefits and enjoyment I get from Nuffield this is a minor negative,

I have looked at other alternatives in Plymouth and can not see any reason to change.

In 2005 I was paying £25 a month at the YMCA centre before it closed. That was considered good value at the time. 8 years on , I am paying just £10 a month more for far, far superior facilities, equipment, classes, health checks and the pool.

Good Position With Easy Access
May 2012
I had a day pass to see Cannons and try some of the classes which was good. It is in a good location at the Barbican Leisure Centre although it is not actually on the Barbican which is a bit confusing for visitors but there is really good parking at the centre and it is a lovely clean and bright building. There are lots of different classes and a nice pool but as a rather mature lady I found it very noisy for me although it is ideal for younger members and a very popular place to go

based on some other reviews here, I think this gym is trying to improve. I totally agree with the gym ventilation. It is the worst I have come across. The blowers seem to be almost non existent, and the heat is amplified by lots of spotlights (particularly on the running machines) and large glass windows.According to regular users this has been an area of complaint for some time. That aside, the layout is pleasant, the pool is great (if you are in after five when the kids have gone) and the location is convinient. As far as it being full of 'gym bunnies' , I see quite the opposite. Lots of middle aged professional people of various shapes, and no one seems bothered about anyone else. I would say if the ventilaton is addressed, this would be a premium gym.

Standard Gym
I have been a member of this gym, and it is a standard type of gym with a good number of cross trainers and tracks. I could never get to the classes, as the timings did not fit with working full time. They changed the opening times whcih really affected how much I could use it, and also found it a challenge to park there at times as they share a carpark with the multiplex cinema. because of this I resigned my membership
