We did the Plymouth Gin distillery master distillers tour which was conducted by Pippa who was very knowledgable about gin in general . The two and half hour tour went by very fast . We were introduced to the gin making process and it’s history including that of Plymouth gin company whose premises date back to the days of the pilgrim fathers . We had a gin tasting session to start then distilled our own small bottles of gin . We ended up in the bar for an included gin cocktail chosen from a menu that included several choices . The bar is quite spectacular inside especially the ceiling and worth a visit on its own for the extensive gin cocktail list
We thought the price of £48 per person overall was reasonable for the experience we had .
There is a small shop that is quite expensive in regard to merchandise such as clothing and items like flasks, glasses , etc .We purchased a bottle of fruit cup which apparently can only be purchased there .We were given a ten percent discount due to having done a tour .

Our guide, Carly, was very informative and entertaining. She encouraged the group to bond by introducing ourselves and stressing that there was no right or wrong opinion on anything. We did the gin connoisseurs tour which took about 90 minutes including tasting and comparing various gins and botanicals. A free drink at the end was included. We got a keyring and badge thrown in. You get 10% discount on any shop purchases that day. Highly recommended.

Our tour guide, Pippa, was very knowledgeable about the history of the brand and the stages of production. Most of the tour was either on a balcony overlooking the still and spirit safe room or in the nosing and tasting room.

The only thing that did disappoint was when we were finally allowed through the production room it was very rushed without having much opportunity to look at anything in any more detail.

The basic tour for £12.50 included a guided tasting of the Plymouth Gin and also their Sloe and Fruit Cup derivatives. You can also claim a free G&T or miniature at the end and a £1 per ticket shop discount.

Would definitely recommend calling ahead to book places as we did. Being from out of town, we were given some handy parking advice too that set us up well for our other plans in the city.

Although a little regimented at times, it was generally an enjoyable experience that I'd recommend if you like gin and have an hour or so free whilst in Plymouth.

We visited the distillery today. The distillery was nice, interesting to visit however the whole experience was ruined by the rude tour guide. This was an old lady who is quite full of herself. We have been told where to stop/stand quite rudely, scolded like schoolchildren. She constantly told us not to give alcohol to our 4&8 year olds which we found quite insulting. She asked if we had any questions as the end of her speech and when I asked a question about efficiency of the production, she rudely replied “ I told you that before” which she actually hasn’t! She also said they dont have sugar in their gin and completely oblivious to the fact that fructose is natural sugar found in fruits added to the gin! I think she tries to cover her ignorance by being rude. I would say avoid this lady and ask who is giving the tour whilst booking. We noticed the younger tour guides were lovely and the bar is nice hence 3 points! Otherwise they would get nada!

Visited the Plymouth Gin Distillery on Sunday 6th September 2020 on the connoisseurs tour.
The experience was absolutely fantastic. Our guide Pippa was informed, very funny and was a great host. She was very knowledgeable about the gin she was describing.
The sampled gins on the tour illustrated the science that goes into my wife's favourite tipple.
Really recommend this tour and the gifts we aquired in the gift shop, which represented great value for money.
We even got to stay and purchase gin cocktails after the tour in the bespoke bar.
As it was our 30th wedding anniversary - this was the perfect accompaniment to our weekend. Many thanks to all concerned.

Such an interesting tour ! Harriet took the first part of the tour, telling the history of the company, the building and the process of distilling. The second part was taken by Sonny who explained just how Plymouth Gin achieved the finished product through the botanicals included. Won’t say too much as you just have to see it , but there are bonuses at the end including a discount on the product !!

I was very satisfied with my short tour of the Plymouth Gin Distillery even though I wasn’t expecting to see very much as they are currently squeezing tours around necessary renovations. Becci our guide was brilliant - knowledgable about the building and with an infectious enthusiasm for her field of expertise. We had small samples of the products and a fascinating introduction the their ingredients. I left feeling I learned a lot about the history of the building, the history of the brand and more generally more about gin after what in reality was just 45minutes.

They were also very accommodation when booking as in the end I had to shift some of my party to an earlier point in the day. They weren’t able to confirm immediately but they rang me when they said they would to say they were able to make the last minute changes.

I’m not sure I’d take kids to this because they can’t sample anything, the ones in our party looked a bit bored, but it’s a great rainy day activity for grown ups. Thanks Plymouth Gin!

We visited the Plymouth Gin Distillery as they were coming out of lockdown in May 2021. We took the Master Distillers tour and our host Carly was brilliant, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.
The tour has brought gin to life for us with a real appreciation for the Plymouth style and flavour.
The tour may appear expensive but it is well worth the value and choosing your own aromatics to add to a personal distillation was fun.

We couldn’t book the standard tour so opted for the £33 a head tour with 7 samples of gin. The first part of the tour, with Harriet, was very informative and she clearly knows her stuff. It was interesting to find out just how long Plymouth gin has been around. The next part, the sampling part, was fab. The samples were a decent size and the fantastic Naomi made this part very enjoyable. The perfect start to our night out. We all went back the following day to make a purchase because the gin is really lovely. One of the best tours of this type I’ve done.

The bar is atmospheric and the ceiling is impressive, reminds of a monastery. It’s subtle lighting and good service is good for an evening drink but we like it in the day too, the windows are nice and old fashioned. The service is very good, the only con is that it’s a big old building and the heating doesn’t go far, take an extra layer and sit by a radiator. In the summer it’s great for a cool place to sit. The cocktail list is extensive but we like the navy strength gin.

We normally only go for a drink as we’re local but we’ve done the distillery tour and would do it again, potted history of Plymouth with a tasting. Would like to do the gin making workshop at some point.
