About
Overlooking the sea in Plymouth harbour, Tinside Lido is consistently voted in the top 10 of Europe’s outdoor pools. Built in 1935, the lido is archetypal of the then popular art-deco style and is Grade II listed. Open only during the summer months, this beautiful salt water swimming pool is perfect for everyone and is fully accessible to people of all needs. As well as the pool itself, the facility also features a sun deck, which is generally considered to be one of the best places in Plymouth to soak up the sun, so remember to bring the sun cream.

We had a wander along the Hoe overlooking the Sound and stopped off to check out Tinside Pool. Currently in its Winter Rest still looking in pretty good condition considering it’s open to the elements as well as the Sea. Totally different from the busy busy summer season.

Amazing pool, very friendly staff and lifeguards. Would like to give a special shout out to Maija who was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived and gave us all the information we needed 😊

Tinside Lido is such a wonderful pool. The water is cool and refreshing, clear and buoyant. The staff are lovely; Harry and Jay keep a committed eye on everything and the whole place just feels like a happy, solid community. The pool is perfect just the way it is; the proposal to heat it seems crazy and (in my view) would change its character forever. On hot summer days, to swim at Tinside is bliss, on other days, it’s still a fab place to be - and those views out to sea are amazing.

Great place with real history. For all those idiots complaining about sea water and cold- it's a Lido by the sea, it uses sea water, it is NOT a heated indoor pool. If you don't grasp this concept, don't use it. As for the desire for food and drink- there's a café or failing that, uh, bring your own. As for loungers- the space between the wall and pool edge isn't large enough for loungers and decent access. It's been good enough for generations. If it's not good enough for you, that's a reflection of you and not a disparagement of the pool.

Yesterday my cousin, her partner and our boys took a trip into Plymouth after the boys morning at the cinema we ventured into Tinside Lido. What a great place to be at during such a glorious day. Started with the best and informative receptionist Mia, topped off by the greatest and funniest Manager Harry, gave us a brief history lesson of plymouth and lido. They both made my family feel so welcomed. Overall great place, friendly staff, beautiful outdoor pool overseeing the coast. Cost reasonable, definitely VFM. You won't be sorry visiting here. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves, turned their frowns into smiles. Thank you Tinside Lido

My daughter and I booked a swim today. We live about 30 mins away, and when we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Mya (huge apologies if I’ve spelt your name incorrectly).
We went to the changing rooms and lo and behold, I’d forgotten my swimming costume. I really wanted to swim with my daughter as it was a mummy/daughter afternoon out.
I went back to reception and not only did Mya kindly offer to lend me her swimsuit (which she didn’t have with her), but went and found another that had been given to her as a gift for her daughter, which she kindly lent to me.
Thank you soo much Mya - you really went above and beyond and we had a lovely couple of hours in the gorgeous Tinside lido!

What a fantastic morning! Whilst the booking online was not the simplest, everything worked and we arrived in plenty of time for our 10:00 booking - 10 of us!
The water was so refreshing on a hot sunny day, and the facilities were great.
Very well life guarded, and a very pleasant at number of people so it didn’t feel at all crowded. Would highly recommend!

Great pool, fantastic atmosphere & friendly staff. The pool wasn’t as cold as we thought it would be & deck chairs to hire at £1 each was fab. Only thing that lets it down is the booking system which is a bit of a pain as you have to register for the Leisure centre group to be able to book which is a bit off a faff initially, also would be great if they offered a slight discount for a double session as 2 hours flys by & although good value, booking a double session would work out pricy for a family. Would be great to have a better cafe too, although you can bring your own picnic, drinks etc so that’s not much of a problem. Overall it is a lovely place & we will definitely be back

It’s a lovely place and it’s got incredible views, this would have been 5 stars but there’s one reason why it’s not.
The booking system.
I booked last week and received a confirmation email stating that I had been booked with 3 other people for the 17th July. When I arrived and spoke to the team they had no record of it.
I also got the impression that this isn’t the first time it’s happened and there’s issues with the booking system currently.
I will come back but will try and alternate way of booking, was a little worried I let my partner’s family down as they were here from Essex to visit and use the pool.
Other than this I cannot fault the venue, it’s lovely and the pictures you can take here are spectacular.

Hi, is this within walking distance from Plymouth Station? Also what is the closest hotel to the Lido please?
David D

Alice,
Plymouth Station is about 10 minutes walk away from Tinside Pool.
There are a number of hotels around, a small sample:-
Travelodge and Duke of Cornwall are 0.5 miles away
Premier Inn and Crown Plaza Hotel are 0.7 miles away
Hope this helps. Cheers David
Is there any shade from the sun on hot days?

Depends on the time of day. It’s a south facing pool and so all parts of it will get sun at some point. There didn’t appear to an any areas that would remain cool or shaded throughout the day.
