After a birthday party at a friends home we came through town at about 11.45pm looking for somewhere that we could maybe spend an hour or so before the end of our night. We thought we might have a drink in Pitchers and maybe watch some of the last competitive night at the Olympics and if lucky see Mo's final race. No good, because Pitchers was in darkness almost with no sign of it having been open recently. Surely this is the kind of place where you might hope to have a late evening August Saturday drink?

After a long period in darkness there seems to be movement. Notice of Application for a new licence and to change the interior on behalf of Bar Fever (Plymouth) Ltd to trade as Fever & Boutique. Fever Bars have already set up about two dozen late night Bars in the South and West of England with a few in the midlands. They’ve been open in Exeter and Barnstaple for a while.

After the old Varsity pub was refitted and renamed there was a bit of a gap. When apotchers finally opened last year, it seemed to falter almost immediately. This week we discovered it had fallen into darkness. The rumours abounded but now the people who ran it have announced that the straw that broke the camels back was a very large increase in business rates on the Derry's Cross unit by 50% to just under ÂŁ200,000pa.

Thought the service would've been similar to a wetherspoons.... Wrong...EVEN WORSE. definitely not would not recommend eating here unless your hoping for food poisoning as we were served a MOULDY pizza. Staff didn't seem bothered... Offered a refund for only the pizza and nothing more... Didn't even being the refund to the table had to go to the bar and ask for it.

It's dark and locked whenever I pass. Is it closed for works, the summer or indefinitely?
