We always like to go to the Picturehouse. Good films, friendly staff and comfy seats. At the moment it's also a very COVID-safe way to spend the evening, given both the distancing that they put in place and the fact that the cinema is largely empty in any case! While there are some indoor things that we wouldn't do at the moment, this was fine.

Choice of two three sometimes four films a day. Well selected, good mix, often unusual or arthouse. Well run and friendly, also sensible prices.

We love the Picturehouse cinema. It's comfortable, lovely staff at the box office etc., we never go to other cinemas in the city. BUT climb the stairs to the bar......nightmare!!!!! I always go optimistically hoping that this time the experience will be better than all the previous visits. But, today, once more, absolutely dreadful. The "service" is laughable. We wanted one coffee and one glass of wine, we know from past experience that to order food would be a rash decision.....unless you had upwards of 30 minutes to kill. We approached the bar only to wonder if we had suddenly become invisible. There were 4 members of staff who to a man/woman completely ignored us, the problem with the till/computer was patently more important than even acknowledging our presence. Maybe it's because we're of the older generation, I don't know! We were on the point of leaving (I doubt they'd have noticed), when a very disinterested young woman strolled over to serve us, at the default pace of a snail!!!!! There were FIVE tables behind us, all with used crockery/glasses uncleared. My sister was given a glass, not a plastic one, even though we had been asked if we were taking our drinks into the cinema. We were the only people at the bar. It's horrendous, when will it improve? I have NEVER been anywhere where the service is so consistently bad. As we left after the 16.30 performance, people were queuing up the stairs. I doubt they had much chance of being served before the beginning of the next film, actually, NO chance.

...anything I write in any negative is because I / we LOVE ❤ Exeter P.H & want it not just to survive...but really , -massively -thrive.
It's a blessing to have this cinema..(.one of the main reasons did not trolley back to Cornwall when I retired ;0))....& have been a member, forever.

A true movie going experience here...Great ...really great ,discerning film & true audience respect for the art form. It's rare.Have you been to the Vue?
Cherish this cinema : Use it....or loose it.

It's an absolute gem.Sure, many had trepidation when PH was sold but it has gone OK.in transition ... tho some things .. are... missed.
It pays to be a member. It would benefit from 2nd viewings vastly reduced...but ...
where it spectacularly falls down is -hospitality.Pricey.Training. Lack of Focus.Choice.( no vegan/ gluten free either.)
If these areas had some vision & were professionally addressed then this cinema can become a beacon for all true lovers of film.

We live about an hour's drive from Exeter, and visit the city periodically, but we visited the Picturehouse specifically this week as it happened to be the only cinema screening "They Shall Not Grow Old" anywhere near us this week. We had never been to it before despite living in this area for 12 years. It is a delightful little gem of a cinema with just 2 screens, but shows all recent releases in rotation. There is a licensed bar/cafe upstairs with a nice ambience and the two screen areas are immaculate with clean, very comfortable seating and loads of legroom on every row.The staff are charming and welcoming. We shall use this cinema again; it is worth the drive.

While on a visit to Exeter recently I realised there was a national NT Live showing of The Bridge’s ‘Julius Caesar’ on 22 March so googled a location. So it was by chance that I discovered this brilliant little cinema. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and there is a spacious bar and good food upstairs. A delightful change from the usual soulless multiplexes and I will definitely return!

ok picture house Theatre Exeter. Should work its a nice enough venue good choice of films(albeit somewhat overpriced). But it is truly one of those place in which the staff are well, just too effected to work. Everything takes way longer than it should in their effected slow and dare I say it incompetent manner. Two people buying tickets dont be surprised to wait 15 minuets. went to see a film the other day the staff couldn't even be bothered to turn the lights off when it came on! Want a coffee revel in the fact that the cafe/bar staff look through you like you don't exist. Ok sometimes you have things to do I'm sure folding napkins is more important than actually serving and taking money, but a quick be right with you wouldn't go a miss! In conclusion. If you have all day on your hands like waiting, being ignored/stared at blankly watching staff actively avoid work and find incompetence and over pricing a bit of a giggle then this is the place for you!
