We arrived at the tourist office to be told that there was a mediaeval tour due to leave soon. We find our way to the meeting point and spent a great 2 hours. An excellent way to start our day in Exeter. Forgot to add - it's free!

I went on the 'Exeter old and new' tour with a group of local tourist volunteers; we were interested in the process as well as the tour itself and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the rain. We all learnt something new about Exeter, and would recommend the tours to anyone with an hour or so to spare.

There are several walking tours run by volunteers at Exeter. These guides are knowledgeable, helpful and interesting people. Each tour is different and for anyone who wishes to know more about the history of Exeter they are a must. Most tours run for 90 minutes but you can leave during the tour if necessary. I highly recommend that any visitor... More

I showed up to the meeting point on a grey and grim afternoon only to discover I was the only participant! Nevertheless Graham was willing to do his tour anyway and I was thrilled to have a private tour for an hour. Even though it was the short intro tour, I found him to be incredibly informative but also kept... More

I highly recommend the Red Coat Guided Tours. I went on "Exeter Old and New" with Mike and "Forgotten Exeter" with Graham, both of which were fascinating. I came away with a much better understanding Exeter's--and England's--history, and having had a few laughs, too. The fact the tours were free of charge was icing on the cake. Thank you, Red... More

Wow, an engaging guide in Gill Yates, a sunny day and an amazing trot around the streets of Exeter and all for free. What more could you ask for? Oh yes, a choice of several other equally interesting looking tours. Check out the red coat guide links, I'd have taken more tours if I'd had more time. Highly recommended!

We did the churches and catacombs tour today and it was excellent. Our very knowledgeable guide set the historic context briliantly. Although 90 minutes sounded like a long time for a tour, the time flew by because everything we heard from our guide and everything we saw, was fascinationg. We visited places in Exeter we had not seen before. Brilliant... More

The red coat guides are easy to find and identify. There are several tours to choose from and we went on the Tudor Exeter tour as we are interested in that period. Our guide, Gill was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. You are shown sights that you wouldn't find by yourself. A must do and we would have attended others given... More

We went on three tours, The Cathedral to Quay, The Historic Quayside and The Ghost Tour. All our guides were professional and amusing as well as being very informative. This is a great way to quickly familiarise yourself with Exeter especially if you have limited time to spare. My personal favourite was The Cathedral to Quayside tour. A must when... More

Having read about the Red Coat Tours on TripAdvisor I was quick to work out which tour I wanted to take. The City Wall was my chosen adventure. Meeting the guide was easy and the red coat really helped! We left exactly on time which was great. The information was first class and the subject matter was fascinating. I was... More
