Had friends visit who have an interest in local history so decided to book two tours: medieval Exeter and city wall tours. The two hours fly by, both tours provided fascinating insights into historical Exeter along with the origins of certain terms and phrases in use today.

I found both guides to be extremely knowledgable and entertaining.

It has certainly inspired me to book onto the other tours to learn more about the city I have called home for 4 years.

Would highly recommend as an event for anyone planning to visit Exeter, you won’t be disappointed.

My wife and I did the short one hour tour Introducing Exeter with Prof David Ralston as our guide. The tour was highly informative and very enjoyable and David brought things to life with his colourful description of how life was in times gone by. Despite the encumberance of the christmas market stalls by the cathedral we were still able to view important landmarks and visualise the landscape before the cathedral was built.
The tour was excellent overall and David was a great ambassador for the city of Exeter. His love of history, coupled with some amusing stories, all delivered in his unique style really made the tour. When in Exeter don't miss the opportunity to book a tour, of which there are many throughout the week
My only qualm concerns people who book tours and fail to turn up and don't notify the guide accordingly. This meant we waited around for over 10 minutes for two people who never turned up.

Two tours completed this week, we did the Medieval tour with David on Saturday as a family and the ghosts and legends tour with Bob this evening as a couple. I cannot recommend these tours highly enough, and perhaps this is now one of the best times to go, with small group numbers making it a much more personal experience x A heads up to the red coats via Fb in advance, allowed the guide to set up a child-friendly experience for our young family to complement their curriculum, and a completely different, grown-up date night experience for us tonight. We have learnt a whole lot more about the city we have lived in for pretty much all our lives, in just a few short hours, and had fun in the process x So glad the red coats are back!

We went on the Medieval tour of Exeter with our Red Coat guide, Barry. It was so good, showing us parts of Exeter that l had never found before despite several visits. Barrys knowledge was amazing, we felt that there was so much more he wanted to tell us if only time had allowed. I recommend every visitor should go on one of the many tours organised by the Red Coats, it is a tremendous asset the city has.

Absolutely fantastic tour. Our tour guide, Jackie, was completely wonderful. Really friendly and engaging, gave clear information, was full of interesting fun facts which kept the whole family interested and amused. Tour was really comprehensive, covered quite a bit of the town, and was at a good pace. Jackie was really fantastic at answering all our questions and her enthusiasm was very infectious. Thank-you very much!

After living in Exeter for over forty years and having seen these guys around on many a summer's day, I finally joined for a tour last year. Very good, highly recommended, our guide was very knowledgeable and didn't just read out a script, he was good answering questions from the group as well. You may also get to visit places that you never knew existed. It goes without saying that you need to be interested in history to enjoy this, but if you do I highly recommend it .

We went on the Halloween witches and ghost story tour. It was absolute fun and recreated the psyche of the people over history and how they were drawn into believing in witches and ghosts and of course there was always the penance that one could play to save your soul.

The tour guide was absolutely magnificent dressed in his black cape complete with illuminated skull on the end of his stick “completed the look”

Thoroughly enjoyed highly recommend

We did the Cathedral to Quay tour with Barry on Christmas Eve. Was very close to cancelling due to the weather but incredibly glad that we didn't! Despite having lived in Exeter for 13 years, I had never done a Red Coat tour and learned so much about the history of the city. Barry was really knowledgable and put a lot of effort into giving us clear explanations about each part and answering our questions.

Would definitely recommend anyone doing this tour (even if it is raining, do it anyway!) and will certainly be looking into the other tours offered.

I'd give these guides 10 stars if I could - they are absolutely incredible. I have done four tours now - Cathedral to Quay, the Blitz tour, Medieval Exeter and Forgotten Exeter, and every single one has been fascinating. The guides really know their stuff, and it's great to see their enthusiasm for learning about Exeter's rich history. Every tourist to Exeter should take one of these tours to learn a little more about the city in a fun and engaging way, and I definitely think that having these amazing free walking tours is a credit to the city and its tourist industry.

We did the medieval tour sat 19th June with Jenny, the tour guide was full of passion for Exeter and her knowledge was outstanding. We (4 of us ) live in Exeter but we’re amazed at much we didn’t know about our local city. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
