This is a truly lovely spot with all the facilities you could want. HOWEVER for a basic no frills sausage bap (3 slices of sausage) in the cafe I was charged £7.50 which I regard as an outrage. As I ordered four I was down £30. This really was a disappointment. Added to the £3.50 car park charge for just over an hour I felt somewhat exploited.

The beach looks beautiful on approach and the parking was easy with people in his vis jackets pointing out where to park. The beach is shingle and very unforgiving on your feet. We had taken beach sandals but you really need proper beach shoes. The water is very clear and excellent for paddle boarding or kayaking. The beach was busy when we went but felt it accommodated everybody well. The only downside was the cost of parking £9 for 3+hours and the cost of the food and drink at the cafe with no alternatives close by. £12.50 for a crab sandwich ouch! But if you stay all day and take a pack up you can keep costs down for a family day out.

What a misnomer, it is a shingle beach with tiny gritty stones, very close to Dartmouth. Flip flops are NOT a good choice of footwear, instead wear swimming shoes or trainers instead as the grit gets between the soles of your feet and the shoe. Also in summer the grit gets hot to walk on. Do take a shelter as there is no protection from the sun, although you can buy one from the shop for £25. Typical narrow roads so you may have to back up for a larger vehicle. One road down to the beach is full of pot holes, so take the main road route which is better. The beach has two shelves so at high tide you have a steep slope into the water and if you are less agile, getting up the slope is difficult, plus the water gets deep very quickly. Lots of space and a large car park, no dogs allowed. You pay with a card on the way out of the car park, and prices vary by season. High season is £7 for 2 hours. There is a cafe and a small shop and you can hire a paddleboard or small canoe.

We visited here as two families with children ranging from 4-13 years old. There are two car parks so plenty of space. The car parks are camera operated and you pay as you go out via the machine. I think over three hours worked out at around £9. There are toilets here and a small shower to wash off from the sea. The beach itself isn’t sand but very tiny pebbles which is nice as it doesn’t all stick to you. There is a cafe area and also a takeaway area. It is quite pricey so if there are a lot of you I would advise that you take some snacks with you. Be warned, when paddling out there is a deep drop not too far out so if you have young children it’s best to keep an eye on them especially if they can’t swim. You can hire paddle boards also. It’s a lovely place to visit and a really lovely day out. Would highly recommend.

We arrived on a relatively cold summer's afternoon and hired some paddle boards and a wet suit. The process was easy and we spent a couple of fun hours messing about on the water. Parking was straight forward and easy to pay. Fun times...

A really well-run operation with plenty of parking, good access, great facilities and good cleanliness. The beach is expansive with a designated swimming area patrolled by lifeguards. It is comprised of fine shingle.

Great for a few hours on the beach, lovely clear water, great for paddle boarding. Very small pebbles, easy to walk on and lie on but no sandcastles. Easy to park, field next to beach, can pay on exit or on website once get home.

I absolutely love this place. Clean and no dogs. It's a shame that Venus cafe has gone, but the new cafe has some good food and the new restaurant sounds like it will be good. Really disappointed that RED have taken over the shop and there are now so many paddle boards on the beach. The coronation chick pea roll is really good!

Nice beach but the name lies! This is NOT a sandy beach. Parking is easy if not a little expensive (£9 for the day). Shingle is painful on bare feet and the sea goes deep quickly so not good for small children. But if you are prepared for this it is a good day out.

What a beautiful beach,,nestled between two cliffs. Sheltered, blue waters gorgeous. The toilets (weirdly!) And absolute highlight! Clean, spacious but something very nice about having classic fm played as you do your business. We were here for a race and these were well used and appreciated!

Only stopped for just under an hour to admire the view and stretch our legs but looked to be a good set up with some unusual options from trying paddle boarding to a wood fired sauna barrel, topped by some shops and an excellent looking cafe. Very fine shingle on most of the beach but a sand area constructed for kids to build sandcastles. Car park is pay on exit and camera based - put your registration number in on leaving and it tells you what you owe, or in our case three minutes left of the initial free hour

Awesome beach day at Blackpool Sands. The beach is shingle and shelves steeply as you go into the sea. Water lovely and clear, enjoyed lots of swimming and the lovely surrounding scenery of cliffs, woodland and fields. The beach had lifeguards when we were there and there is also a shop, water sports for hire and a cafe which is handy, although would recommend taking a picnic as some things are expensive.

There is also a car park which you pay £8 to park all day, but we did return late one afternoon and only paid £4 which was shortly after 3pm. Car park charge seems steep unless you plan to spend the whole day there. Overall would recommend this beach and facilities.

Blackpool Sands is indeed a beautiful place. Parking was well organised (even if you did have to pay) and toilets were clean.
A few things that I wish I'd known before I got there:
1. This is not a sandy beach, rather small shingle which is absolute agony to walk on without beach shoes!
2. The shop and cafe, whilst being well stocked, are expensive. £2.50 for a can is extortionate, particularly on a hot day. Food from the cafe was good quality but the queue was ridiculous and staff were very unhelpful when asked to leave items out of a burger. We were told that, "When we are this busy hard luck!" Fine for adults but not so good for children or those with allergies!
3. No shade or umbrellas available to hire.
4. Lots of water sport equipment to hire at a reasonable price.
We did enjoy our day at this beach but feel that certain aspects let it down.

We had a delightful day at Blackpool Sands. A simply stunningly beautiful large, clean beach with clear, blue waters & a great backdrop. It has a very exclusive feel to it probably due to being under private ownership. I noticed some harsh criticism amongst the reviews so I will try to add balance;

1) 'The beach is not sandy' - This is correct, it's a fine shingle beach but not uncomfortable to walk/ lay on. It has a glorious colour especially in bright sunlight. People who think they're being misled by the name 'Sands' should get a grip. This area has been known as such since the 1400's!
2) 'Car parking is expensive' - We went in mid June & we were charged £6 all day! That is NOT expensive. I know this price drops further in the afternoon.
3) ' The food was expensive' - Fair to say that what we ate at the cafe was priced slightly higher than we would expect at a typical beach location BUT the food was prepared fresh, hot & definitely of a noticeably higher standard than I've had before. You get what you pay for. Otherwise just bring your own lunch!
Don't let the naysayers put you off giving Blackpool Sands a try. The place is simply stunning!

It's a lovely looking beach with clear water, not great if you have young children. Shingle and stone, no sand, and the water gets deep very quickly. Kids didn't want to stay long.

Cans of soft drink and ice lollies £2.75 each. I had a very sad small burger for £5.99 with two small patties in it and a bun which was dried out.

Blackpool Sands is wide shingle beach with a large car park.
The water drop off from tehy beach is fairly steep so it is ot particularly suited for young children.
For some strange reason the watersport canoes are kept at the back of the beach resulting in the hirer having to drag the canoe well over 100 metres from the back of to beach to the water.
The worst part of this beach experince is the catering facilities, poorly managed, slow and very very expensive. Four Magnum ice creams from Waitriose are £3.20 thats 80p each. At Blackpool Sands a single Magnum is £2.95, thats £11.80 for four. That is simply taking advantage of a captive audience, but actually we decided not to be fleeced so did not buy any at all.
The qing system for food is a shambles, with cold food also being available from a near empty cafe next door but no signage to point that out, so everyone qs to place orders in a little window. Itvs sadly this type of riduculous service and pricing that potentially puts people off taking holidays in the UK and thats a real shame.

Fantastic beach. Used to come here as a child and back then it was just a carpark on a slope, toilets you visited by using a turnstile paying 2p and a little shop)cafe and quiet. Now it's all changed andvedy busy, but still beautiful setting, clean and lovely sea. Lifeguards now on the beach and a large cafe, carpark and beach hire. It is £8 to park all day, get there early in a hit sunny day, we got there at 10am and by midday the carparks were full and they were turning cars away. The beach shelves quite abit so it's better for experienced swimmers as waves do take your feet away, but past this it's looking very and safe. Very good fir padfl boards and kayaks. The shop and restaurant are very very expensive, we bought an an inflatable ring Iocally for £3.50, the same in the shop here was £9. Chips were just under £5 for kids !! Also the queue for the cafe and tajeaway is horrendous on a hot day.

I really really loved Blackpool Sands. With it being so famous I expected it to be crowded and touristy, but it wasn't - it felt like a classier type of beach (if there is such a thing!), and it was virtually deserted on a late Sunday afternoon in September.

There's a large car park which costs £4 all day, which is right next to the beach. When we first arrived we were really tired from travelling so had a snooze in the car, which was lovely next to the sea - I can see the attraction of parking up your motorhome there as many people were.

The beach itself is pebbles not sand, which was good for us as we hadn't brought anything to sit on. It's huge so there's no issue finding a quiet spot to yourself.

There was a wedding going on when we visited in the Venus restaurant at the back of the beach, which only added to the nice ambience. The cafe offers a large choice of food and drink with plenty of benches outside, and the staff were really friendly.

The only reason we left was because the car park is locked at 5pm, otherwise we could happily have spent all evening there!

This is our local beach and sadly wouldnt recommend to my visitors. We went today hoping the parking fee might be more appropriate now it is based on time spent there rather than all day. So shocked to pay £7 for 3 hours in september, low season, an absolute rip off, thats a lot of money to pay for classical music in the loo. We wont be back or recommend, slapton sands is a better place.

A beautiful, clean beach, ideal for a family, couples or singles, either for relaxing or watersports. No dogs allowed.
Despite its name, the beach is shingle; very tiny stones, rather than sand. I preferred this...easier to get off after! I didn't struggle at all with walking on the beach barefoot, i found it lovely, but if you do have sensitive feet beach shoes or flip flops would work. The water was beautiful and crystal clear, but very cold! I'd recommend wet suits. You can hire paddleboards on the beach, and there is a station to inflate your own if you have brought them. Parking was well organised and really easy to pay - I paid £9 for 3 hours on the beach. There's a cafe and toilets. I loved the litter picking initiative they have - picture included - what a great idea.
All in all, a really lovely beach to chill at, have a picnic, and enjoy the sea.
