About Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle
The paddle steamer Kingswear Castle is the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in operation in the UK today. She was built in 1924 at Philip & Son of Dartmouth. The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society spent 15 years fully restoring her to her former glory offering river trips on the Medway from 1985. In late 2012, she returned to the home waters of the River Dart after an absence of 47 years.

The Kingswear Castle is a beautiful old paddle steamer and it is a pleasure to be on board, but the description of their river cruise both in their 2019 brochure and on their website is inaccurate and misleading. They claim to visit 'the quaint village...More

Currently this is the only paddle steamer working in Britain. The Kingswear Castle sails from Dartmouth to Totnes and back a few times each week, not every day. If the weather is fine, which it was when we made the journey in both directions, there...More
