My grandchildren were absolutely fascinated by Grimspound. It is so remote, only one house visible in the distance. You cannot imagine people living in such a harsh environment. If travelling on Dartmoor it is well worth a visit. I went there many years ago, and...More

Certainly worth a slight detour if you have never been there before. Bu it does form part of the Dartmoor way between pubs. Alternatively just a feww hundred yards off the lane.

I stumbled upon Grimspound when Googling walks and when I read it was a Bronze Age settlement of hut circles, the inner geek in me knew I had to find it. You can drive there and park at the bottom of the slope, follow the...More

It would be better on a nice day and you could walk around dartmoor. The site is impressive. Signs would have been nice to explain the site to visitors. Still impressive. Parking is very limited 3 or 4 cars only.

These are the ruins from the Bronze age 2000 BC. They are in relatively good shape and there is a splendid Tor next to it. By the way this was the setting for Sherlock Holmes story Hounds of the Baskerville. Plenty of sheep and cattle...More

There is a something rather unique about the Dartmoor landscape that quickly intrigued me. The landscape seemed to slowly swallow me up while at the same time to be shrinking me down to the point that I felt like a rather small spec in a...More

This is a real gem for those interested in archeological sites. There is very limited parking near-by (4/5 car lay-by) and you need to be on the ball to spot the tiny sign opposite the lay-by which indicates the pathway to Grimspound. The climb up...More

Excellent, well preserved remains of a bronze age hillside settlement, near Postbridge in the Dartmoor National Park. The site is very well defined, with many of the 24 original round house foundation stones still visible, along with a rambling 150 metre boundary and the clear...More

If your in Devon and you like ancient sites its a must. About 200 yards up hill from the road, easy but pick a nice day. Its a large Bronze Age circler pound with many hut circles inside about 3000 to 3500 years old. If...More

This site can be found if you turn left off the B3212 after Lettaford when travelling towards Postbridge on Dartmoor. The next village marked on the map is Widdecombe in the moor. .....It is not Plymouth as someone has mapped it earlier. It is an...More
