Old, decrepit, but the staff are great and it works

This is a great little cinema in St Ives with 3 screens but it cannot be compared to a modern multiplex. The building is quite old, it hasn't been upgraded for quite a while but it has Dolby sound, old but comfy chairs and you sit close to (but far enough away from) the screens which give a remarkablely good... This is an old, almost worn out, little cinema. However, staff were exceptionally friendly and seemed genuinely pleased to have our custom. Saw the Jungle Book and the new X men films. Once the films started you could be anywhere and you soon forget that you are not in a multiplex. Recommend this great wee place to anyone. Deserves to... More

After reading some other reviews I was worried about going to see Captain America Civil War here. My fears were totally unfounded, yes the cinema is old but that is part of its charm. The prices were so reasonable and the whole place took me right back to my childhood. I would 100% recommend visiting here, if you want something... More

Our 1st visit to this Cinema as the weather wasn't great, so we decided to treat ourselves to a film. The cinema is very old & worn & looked like it could do with a good clean up in general. We were in screen 1, upstairs & as we entered the auditorium it was very dark so we had to... More

Called in one evening whilst on Holiday in St. Ives to catch a film. I think the best word to describe this place (well, when your used to IMAX) is probably... cute. The size of the screen wasn't all that much bigger than a lot of TV's you can buy these days but you know what, it didn't really matter.... More

Came to watch Dads army at 4.15 at the Royal cinema. My other half got the tickets while I went to the Loo. I've never seen such dirty and rundown toilets in my life. Could do with a lick of paint, a good scrub and new decor. The screen itself is run down, chairs falling apart and again needs a... More

Cinema is rather dated but as other reviews say it adds to the charm and was like a step back in time going to cinema as a child. Visited cinema during break in st Ives and watched Creed, only about 9 of us in there watching it which was nice as there was less noise! Couldn't resist treating myself to... More

The main reason to go to a cinema is to watch a film and in this case the screening was 10/10. However the surroundings ..... I'm sure they could tidy it up.

Everyone likes to see a good film but you also like the comforts that go with it as well. Unfortunately this cinema was a little tired today the least. Numerous steps to reach a rather small foyer which when busy can get cramped. Decor both in the aforementioned and cinema number three tired. The seats were quite comfy but could... More

I visited the Royal cinema this evening, while staying in St Ives, to see the new Bond movie, Spectre. On arrival to the foyer I got the feeling of an old cinema from back in my childhood and smiled a little at the thought of revisiting a quaint cinema from years gone by. When I entered the screen I was... More
