About
Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens’ dramatic landscape, combined with large-scale exotic, sub-tropical planting, provides the backdrop to contemplative and inspiring art by internationally renowned artists. A major attraction near Penzance in West Cornwall, Tremenheere can be found in a beautiful sheltered valley, overlooking St Michael’s Mount, with woods and a stream, interwoven with an evolving programme of contemporary artwork. The creations of artists such as James Turrell, David Nash, Richard Long, Tim Shaw and Peter Randall-Page interact with the setting to create site-specific permanent work, which harmonises with the landscape. Within this breath-taking location, Tremenheere hosts its sculpture garden, gallery, shop, nursery and restaurant.

Visited a few years ago and enjoyed, on return visit there are now more sculptures which give added interest.
We visited on a stormy day so some areas were excluded, we were immediately offered a 50% discount on admission which was more than fair.
Even at full price it would still have been good value.
Some good views and offers a change from the standard garden offering.

I went to the gardens with two friends and we spent about 90 minutes walking around looking at the sculptures, installations, plants and trees. It is a magical place and even though it was very busy, we managed to find ourselves alone at several points. What I remember most is the white domed chamber that you can look at the sky through, with wonderful light effects when the sun emerged; and the camera obscura which is great fun. There is also a very secluded, very green area with a stream.
We enjoyed our visit very much and it is a fantastic place to take photographs.
What would I change? It would be great if seniors got a discount ! this is not a cheap visit at £9.
The cafe - obviously very popular and as it is outside the entrance, it is obvious that people visit purely for the cafe, meaning there is no hope of paying visitors getting a seat when they exit. There is also a kiosk but no seating which is a shame.
The trees are wonderful, I did dig around around on the website and find a list of the species, I was so excited to see some of them like Norfolk Island Pine. I appreciate that labelling is a mammoth task, but some of these wonderful specimens could be labelled?
Or the tree guide given out on request, or perhaps at a small charge, on entry?

As for the sculptures, I found many pretentious and irritating, but some like the temple and the minotaur are striking and in keeping.

This was a very unexpected pleasure.
The garden is well hidden and considering we visited in November we were amazed at the type of plants on display, it was almost tropical!
The gallery was very interesting and the cafe was nice to. However as the cafe is outside the garden and accessible to anyone it is best to book a table if you want lunch.
The garden centre is also excellent as it is a Chelsea winner in the field of succulents.
The art work adds an additional level of interest to the garden and will certainly create talking points .

We enjoyed the beautiful tropical gardens and the fantastic views. We went on a very hot afternoon, 28 degrees! The gardens are open until 5.30pm and after our walk around the garden at 4.30pm we looked forward to a cold drink and ice cream in the cafe, only to find it closed at 3pm! The entrance fee for a family of 5 is expensive for what is basically a nice walk. The whole experience would have been much better if refreshments were available on an extremely hot day! I really think the cafe should be open until 5pm.

There is no doubt that the views of St Michael’s Mount are stunning from this garden. There are many lovely trees and ferns to enjoy but quite a lot of the garden looks unkempt. In one section a green cesspool-looking pond was only out-yucked by a pond of brown sludge just up the path. My partner and I liked some sculptures but found quite a few underwhelming. For your entrance fee you get a garden that is nice in parts, sculptures that are a mixed bag and views that are definitely worth the price of admission alone.

Thank you for your review. The ponds in the gardens are weather dependent so when there hasn't been much rain this is what can happen but we do try to keep a natural space in tune with nature and the changing seasons. We are glad you enjoyed the views :)

We visited during a storm, drawn there by the description of the garden mentioning that it was sheltered.
We had a fantastic walk around the 22 acres, enjoying the misty views towards St Michael’s Mount, the evocative sculptures and lush planting.
The massive swaying acropolis (not its real title) was performing to the audience due to Storm Alex - an unnerving, mesmerising sight.
I would highly recommend this garden for anyone but be warned that there are a number of unfenced decks over water which were generally signposted.

Tremenheere gardens has just reopened . 40 sculptures in woodland and garden landscape with views of Saint Michael's Mount arrived in fog but lifted for views and silent spaces. Planned only to spend 1 or 2 hours there all day late lunch in the brilliant restaurant which decked out in art, exhibition hall also visited . What a great day all the things I love in one place and great traditional creme brullee

Fabulous sculptures dotted around the gardens and woodland, with a great map to guide you round the exhibits. Some stunning views towards St Michael's Mount too. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was that the café was fully booked and the take away hut shut....it was a gorgeous sunny day and I couldn't even get a drink or take out coffee to sit out in the sun with!

We were really disappointed. The sculptures are in no way in harmony with nor interpretive of the magnificent cornish landscape. Just abstract modernart which would be just as relevant anywhere else. Also most visitors were rather loud, rather pretentious and "Chelsea"!!! Ditto the cafe where people were congregating to eat fussy food and talk at the tops of their voices. We preferred the many local galleries. (PS there were a few exceptions which really did interpret / enhance their surrounding but very few.)

The sculpture garden is quite amazing. It’s big so leave plenty of time to explore the sculptures, the exotic plants and trees and enjoy the fantastic views. On a sunny day it’s second to none. Sadly the rather graceless rebuff (we had hoped for a simple late lunch and were in the queue at 3.00pm) from the shed cafe was a disappointment after a glorious 2.5 hours in the gardens. Don’t let that put you off though!
