We have done many boat trips out to see dolphins in Cornwall but this was our first time on the mermaid. We rang up on Saturday and thought we would take a chance and see if they had any spaces on bank holiday Monday. We couldn’t believe our luck that they managed to squeeze us in at such short notice! Everything went our way on Monday and the dolphins were as playful as ever and the sea conditions and weather were lovely! Adrian is the best captain we’ve ever met and his son and wife were so accommodating. Genuinely some of the nicest people we’ve met and they took the time to chat to us for most of the trip as we were up the front next to the drivers seat. The views we had of the dolphins were amazing, and Adrian didn’t hesitate to let us climb up to the bow of the boat to let us try and get the shots we wanted on the camera. He found us multiple groups of dolphins and they stayed with us for quite some time putting on amazing displays!! As if this wasn’t enough, because they were a few people down on the next trip which was a fishing trip, he knew how badly we wanted to see a Minke whale and infact offered us to stay on the boat for the next trip for free before we drove straight back to London. It was more than generous of them to let us stay on and they even let my boyfriend have a rod and fish too. As I’ve said above - they were honestly the nicest people and we can’t thank them enough for that day. It wasn’t the right day for a Minke.. which means we will just have to come back multiple times more! We won’t hesitate to book this up next time we are down from London and this will always be our go to trip now. The value for money is so worth it and it is cheaper than a lot of other boat trips around. It doesn’t matter that they take more people on board as everyone gets an allocated area of the boat and Adrian makes sure to turn the boat around so everyone gets their view. Thanks so much you guys - it was a pleasure!! Take care and see you soon!

We found Mermaid Tours on the internet whilst looking for an activity for our last day in Cornwall and what a great choice it turned out to be!

First impressions were great, the boat came into the harbour and once the previous passengers disembarked the guys running the trip sanitised the "touch areas" of the boat before letting us onboard, and when we were welcomed they boarded each group individually asking how many passengers and seating everyone with space between each group before asking if everyone was happy with the social distancing - which we were.

We headed out to sea with the two guys running the trip pointing out the sites of interest and explaining their significance.

With no promise of success the boat headed out in search of dolphins, seals and other wildlife - the sea has no barriers and it's inhabitants are free to move around but this time we were the lucky ones, there must have been up to 50 dolphins swimming and jumping around the boat!

Then it was off to find the seals and another box ticked before a ride around and explanation of the history of St Michael's Mount.

The trip was a well run two hours which would have been hugely enjoyable even if the dolphins hadn't shown up!

We'd highly recommend Mermaid Tours to anyone looking for a boat trip out of Penzance!

We tried a couple of times to book with them but because they was so busy they put another boat on to help out. So maybe need to book a few days in advance during summer months. We had a wonderful skipper who worked on st Michael’s mount and his boat “ The flush of dawn”. He and his boat was perfect. Couldn’t do enough for us all and answered any questions to the best of his knowledge. He took us down the coast to see seals and even turned the boat around so the passengers on the other side got to see what we did too. We sailed out to sea and was quickly surrounded by dolphins. They chased the boat and I swear they was so close you could touch them. Our captain stayed with them for a long time to make sure we seen them from every angle. The winds picked up so he sailed us close to the coastline to be able to have a smoother sail back. Little things he did for us all on the boat was above and beyond and can’t thank him enough. Also the guys at the mermaid tackle shop are so nice and understanding when trying to arrange to book and are full of local information.

A really great boat trip, we ended up being out for longer than planned but the skipper was determined to find some dolphin for us to see and he succeeded. Just amazing to watch all the dolphins! We also saw jelly fish (big and small) porpoise and sea birds - gannets diving are just incredible, I'd never seen them before. And as a fabulous extra we saw a Minke whale as well, which was incredibly lucky. Wildlife guide was very knowledgeable, skipper was really friendly and chatty with everyone - all in all well worth the money and would definitely go again.

I went on the 4hr wreck/reef fishing trip on Mermaid II.
From the first phone call the staff in the shop were polite and answered the questions I was asking about the trip.
Onboard Mermaid II the skipper first gave us all a briefing about safety, where the liferafts were and the life jackets, then we were off.
I had a great time fishing and the skipper and young crew were very helpful with unhooking the fish.
Couldn't have had a better time.
I will definitely be back again.

We went on a wildlife cruise. The team was engaging and knowledgeable, pointing out lots of landmarks along the coast, and they made sure everyone had a chance to get a good view of anything interesting by turning the boat round. We saw some seals, which was great, but even though it was a bit of a quiet day for wildlife sightings we still thought the whole trip was good value and enjoyable.

What a fantastic find this wildlife trip was, my husband booked this trip just as COVID ended and we are so happy we managed to book on the trip. Our 5 year was only slightly disappointed as she didn’t see any mermaids but she was thrilled with the seals, porpoises and dolphins that Martin (super knowledgable about the various wildlife which I found very interesting) and the captain Adrian managed to find. She was especially thrilled to be given the chance to steer the boat (even in the choppy sea) the captain couldn’t have been better with all the kids on the boat. We experienced some rough sea while we were out (better than a fairground ride) and some from another party didn’t fare well but the staff made sure they were ok and taught them how to cope. Unfortunately due to the bad weather the captain couldn’t get as far out as planned and cut the trip short with apologies and to pop to the office for a refund but it was still great and will be back next year fingers crossed with a calmer sea. The staff in the shop were a little prickly but maybe COVID is making people loose their manners, don’t let them put you off it’s a fantastic trip

Booked a 4 hour fishing trip 3 weeks before a short holiday in Cornwall. Booked it online on the Mermaid website and got last place on the 4 hour trip. Money was taken. 3 days before the holiday started I got single sentence email saying -
'Good afternoon, This is to confirm we have refunded your trip on 17th August, 2021 for £35, as we have had to cancel. All the best
Mermaid Pleasure Trips 07901731201'
No explanation, no apology. I called the number and chap told me they don't do 4 hour trips in August, just 2 hour trip as we have to make as much money as we can!! I explained I booked on the website and it clearly advertises 4 hour trips and even shows availability for each day, but he said it was website problems. No apology, nothing. I was really looking forward to this trip. Thank you Mermaid person, really great customer service - not. I suggest people book a fishing trip with other skippers who communicate politely with the customers that make them so much money. And btw, still awaiting the refund!

This is our second time aboard The Mermaid, we first came in April and due to the weather our trip was rescheduled to a different day (really bad winds battered Cornwall during April). During the 2 hour trip we saw plenty of different birds and a good handful of seals. The staff on board are really knowledgeable about the area and it's really good that whilst aboard you get a bit of a history lesson about what you can see and what's happened over the years in the different areas you pass by, it is actually really interesting to learn about, unfortunately no Dolphins were found during this trip (they obviously decided they didn't like the really miserable weather, I'm assuming they weren't British then, either that or they'd taken a holiday themselves 😂)

Fast forward to August and we decided to book onto the 3 hour wildlife cruise in a hope of seeing some dolphins. As we ventured towards the English channel, we were given yet another excellent history lesson by the on board staff. On both trips we were told of the telly take signs of what to look out for in regards to spotting dolphins. Sure enough, about an hour and a half ish into our 3 hour trip, we saw the telly take signs of dolphins nearby, and we certainly weren't disappointed, I didn't count how many there were (although my 5 year old daughter said there was 5, the same as her age, so we'll go with 5 😂). It really was amazing to see, they spent a good few minutes swimming around the boat, jumping in and out of the water, swimming all around and underneath the boat, it really was a sight to watch and most definitely made the trip worth every penny!

A two hour trip on the MV Mermaid II was a real treat for the wildlife enthusiast and day tripper alike. With not only the sighting of two well fed seals, but the tremendous excitement of dolphins showing off their mastery of the sea. A first class way to pass time on the briny and excellent value for money. The staff friendly and efficient in marshalling the land lubbers on and off the boat. Though some caution must be observed for the less mobile as regards disembarking onto steep harbour steps ! A must do experience when visiting Penzance.
