This was our third ‘taster’ lesson which we decided to book after an in depth conversation with Nick, (our instructor), the day before and it turned out to be the best SUP experience that we have had. Nick obviously loves his water sports and his knowledge of SUPing is second to none. He has a very open, engaging style of communication with a strong emphasis on safety, the pre launch briefing was informative and delivered with just enough gravitas to ensure that we were respectful of the ocean that we were about to paddle in. He briefed us on all of the safety equipment that he was carrying, including where his phone was in a water proof pocket, how to call the coastguard if needed, and he told us that he had set up a phone in system with his colleagues that ensured that if for any reason we didn’t make contact within five minutes of our planned return time that those colleagues would start a pre planned procedure to start looking for us, they take safety very seriously here! The second part of our lesson involved learning how to launch, kneel on and stand up in the relative calm of Newquay harbour, Nick was full of enthusiasm and encouragement to make us feel confident to try some interesting manoeuvres, at all times Nick kept a watchful eye on us, which I think is important especially if you have younger friends/family with you. After trying out the 10.6ft boards in the harbour we returned to the shore and took out their 12ft boards for a trip beyond the calm waters of the harbour and into the ocean. Nick took us out and gave us a tour of some of the local in let’s and coves, describing some of the historic pirate activities of the past. If you’re looking for somewhere safe, with someone knowledgeable to take your first step on to a board then Nick should be your instructor.

I would recommend using these guys for anything water sports related! We had a paddle boarding mini lesson and tour from Nick who was a fantastic guide and managed to get us up close to a resident seal which was amazing.

Nwsc you are still my number one choice for anything watersports related. Although our trip was a short break this year Sam,Mel and the team made share we had an action packed weekend. Although we only hire kit from them now, we started many years ago being shown the ropes by their experienced staff. So much so that I have been hooked on paddle boarding ever since. They are really good at making you believe in your abilities. Trust their advice and you will be leaving with the biggest grin and sense of achievement. We'll done guys, keep doing what you are. See you all again soon.

My wife and I booked the Newquay water sports centre after being let down by another company last minute. We have never been paddle boarding before so booked the SUP mini lesson and tour. The mini lesson was well worth it in itself and it helped us pick up the basics quickly, even if there were some spectacular falls in the process. Then it was time to go out of the harbour and paddle up the coastline, going into coves and through caves before heading back in. On the way back in we saw Newquay’s resident seal who came up close and personal as we paddled on by. We both had a great time and would highly recommend to all.
