About
The Heritage Centre is now closed for the winter season and will re-open at Easter 2023. We are located on the ground floor of The Old Sardine Factory on the Quay in West Looe. A visit to the Heritage Centre offers a unique experience immersing you in the maritime stories of Looe; the story of the harbour, river and bridges. Plus all about Sardines! We also run a programme of Heritage Talks throughout the season. Our Coffee Shop has a stunning views of Looe River, where you can enjoy a tasty Cream Tea, sandwich or panini, or a delicious cake whilst enjoying hot or cold drinks. Tickets are available online or on the door.

We've passed by the Heritage Centre many times and even eaten in the restaurant above, but it wasn't until we were walking back from Hannafore at the weekend and saw they now have tables outside that we decided to stop. We had a coffee and some sandwiches, and they were really good. It was nice to sit on the quay and grab a light bite.

We visited in August during covid pandemic, we prebooked for a private tour, just a family of 3. Our guide was lovely she talked confidently and with good knowledge of the Looe area, and the history of the town. Our daughter loved looking at the computer that showed boats in the area with live data. She also loved the seagull video about Looe. It was lovely for her to be given a gift bag at the end, she loved the colouring. My only criticism, and it's tiny, is perhaps there should be a bit more about the history of the sardine factory, perhaps there could be a booklet to buy? Other than that it was really good, and definitely worth a visit.

Thank you very much for posting your review. We were very pleased back in 2020 that we found a way of staying open safely with the 'family bubble tours'. Now it is possible to open in 2022 with the exhibits uncovered and available to touch and feel, we hope visitors can enjoy an even more immersive experience! I love your idea of a booklet about the history of the Sardine Factory building itself, I will put that on my list of things to do in the winter closed season.

This was our 10th wedding Anniversary meal which was pre-booked. COVID-19 restrictions in place, staff were masked and tables set for social distancing.
Very clean inside with hand sanitiser at the entrance and on your table.
Staff very welcoming and friendly and a pleasant atmosphere.
Fish cake as a starter and some olives and sourdough bread.
My wife had the Hake with muscles and I had the crab fish linguine. All freshly cooked and well presented.
Highly recommended with good quality food and friendly staff.

Hi there
It's great to hear that you enjoyed your meal at The Sardine Factory Restaurant recently. Our team here at the Heritage Centre works closely alongside our brilliant colleagues at the Restaurant, who like us, are also based at the Old Sardine Factory building, where they are on the first floor. However, we are not part of the same organisation as them, and you can leave a review for them on their own Trip Advisor page here:

Perfect atmosphere, delicious food and desserts to die for😍
We dined here near the end of our holiday and will return to taste the Michelin star chef's food in the future. Staff are very helpful and also on the ball with special dietary requirements. Wonderful harbour views from upstairs. Keep up the good work!🌈💖

Highly recommend the food here. Great tastes and flavours. The haddock scotch egg was out of this world. Runny yolk and curried mayo! Lovely. Kids food was top notch too.

Visited the museum side, with Emma as our guide. Absolutely fascinating history about Looe Harbour, and the very Building we were stood in. Extremely informative and an excellent guide from Emma. So much to digest about the history and people who have created this lovely place. Be sure to book in advance.

We visited here for coffee so we could check out their food menu and see what activities were on offer as we had seen the sign outside offering paddle boarding and other activities. I was first upset by the service when I asked the lady behind the counter about the loyalty card and she responded by merely pointing at the stack of cards. I then asked her about the activities that were advertised outside, she replied with "nothing to do with us". As this is a fairly new establishment I would advise that more cheerful and welcoming staff are placed front of house, as this deterred us from visiting again and subsequently deterred us from visiting the restaurant.

Just opened in time for the school holidays, the Heritage Centre has so much to offer for kids of all ages from 4-70, The centre itself has a very well laid out history of Looe, with wonderful old photos & touchy feely exhibits. I loved the VR film of the lifeboat launch & really felt part of the inshore lifeboat speeding across the bay. For the more adventurous, there is a climbing wall with - I think 6 different climbs in ascending order of difficulty. We declined to take part! There are kayaks available & sundry other activities guaranteed to make the most bored child smile. The restaurant has just opened and we are going to have dinner there tomorrow. No doubt a review will follow.
Well done Sardine Factory- a great addition to the town which I am sure many visitors will enjoy.

The last time we visited Looe this place didn’t exist! One of the town’s improvements. The exhibition area gives an inside into the local history, with activities for the younger children, and a climbing wall area for the more adventurous. The restaurant looked good, if a bit on the expensive side.

We visited for the afternoon during the summer holidays for the crab takeover day and spent a relaxed 75 minutes here. My daughter is seven and she got right in to the craft activities. The talk by Matt from Cornish Wildlife Trust was great, well pitched for a mixed aged audience and we learned some great facts about crabs and lobsters.
