    Gorgeous
They are a delightful aspect of strolling through the centre of the lovely city. Highly ornate buildings and shop fronts are admirable. Across around four of the main streets outlets at both street level and then higher up on the Rows are to be enjoyed.

    Historic Beauty.
Such a beautiful place. The Chester Rows are just what makes Chester. Beautiful old buildings kept in remarkable condition. Walking around and seeing the history and beauty is so enjoyable. Sampled some nice food and pubs. Chester really is a beautiful town.

Unique feature for a U.K. city
There are a number of rows across Chester with some having unique shops but regardless a great way to keep out of the elements. A mix of stone and wooden with some historic buildings around although most are a reproduction dating from the early 1900s. Great to include as part of a city walk

We love Chester and go about six times a year, sometimes for shopping, having lunch out or down by the river. However the lack of public toilets in the centre is a disgrace. The ones going past TKMax and further along closed before covid and have never reopened. A family with three young children asked a security guard where the toilets were and he simply replied that there were none and go to Marks or a cafe

I used to come to Chester on business 30 years ago, it's now a sad reflection on what it used to be. Well over 1/3 shop units on the 'rows' were empty. Those that were open were top names from London's west end. Obviously Chester is only interested in pandering to high end overseas visitors who have bags of dosh!

As an architect, I was fascinated by all the quaint tudor detail in the rows. I believe a lot of these buildings were erected in Victorian times but they certainly look very authentic. I especially like the way little sets of steps would drop down from the upper levels at frequent places, even through little circular stairs at street corners. Marvelous. I should imagine it would be nigh on impossible to get this sort of thing through Councils these days.

I’ve always wanted a Penhaligons fragrance and upon arriving the service was given with 110% effort from an employee called Chloe, she was absolutely amazing and served us with a class attitude. She wasn’t pushy and explained each fragrance we liked as-well as suggesting other possibilities we’d enjoy. We ended up buying a few fragrances and were not disappointed.

Nice selection of shops. There are a number of vacant units but that I suppose is a sign of the times we are in. Having said that there are still plenty of unique shops as well as your normal chain shops you would find in any city centre.
Great variety of shops, bars, and places to eat, in a lovely setting with mostly Tudor style buildings lining the streets.

Will definately return as half a day wasnt really enough to appreciate this city centre

The Chester rows hold an Interesting history, which we only learnt about by doing a waking tour. The tour was organised by the visitors centre and got only £8 it was interesting and very worthwhile.

The rows are two levels of shops, one ground floor and the upper walkway reached by stone steps ( at some locations steep).

There are a mixture of shops, bars and restaurants on both levels.

Some of the building date back to medieval times.

Again you will see distinctive Tudor style buildings and also covered walkways.

It lends Chester a distinctive edge. It was just a shame that Covid meant that several of the more interesting shops remained closed at the time of my visit.

This medieval town has a taste very diferente to other British towns. Its distinctive half-timbered houses reminded me of Germany, but its particular white and black made it unique. I understand it´s called Tudor style. Another peculiarity is its balconies on the second floor of the Rows. When it started raining, we simply climbed to the upper floor and continued our visit.

Strolling the pedestrian streets of The Rows is lovely, but the Cathedral should not be missed. Of the Roman amphitheater, on the other hand, there’s not much left, but local teachers and tourist guides seem to be very proud of its recent finding.

My fiancé and I stayed here after having a day at the zoo and of course had to have a walk around. It was dark when we started our walk and it was stunning, the buildings are truly beautiful and make you feel that you are in an old-world era. Lots of places open late and the following morning we noticed that there were so many different shops, very few empty areas, it was refreshing to see these days. Remember to look up!

These are right in the city centre so you really don’t have to go far out of your way to see them. It is amazing that something so historic is still well used and they have some great shops.

Get your camera ready as these are really iconic and sums up what Chester is all about. It would’ve been wonderful to have seen these in their pomp but they are still in great condition and a focal point for the city.
