We visited Guernsey for the day. We were on a mission to visit the school my father attended pre WW2 and wanted to discover if there was any reference to what.my father might have done .
Not only did we see the school the Librarians were extremely helpful and we found references to my father including photographs of him and classmates.
A visit to this library is a must if you want to learn the history of Guernsey

This library, the Channel Islands' premier historical and genealogical research library, is housed in a former manor house belonging to the man who donated the library to the public. It is absolutely packed full of amazing old and rare books and interesting exhibits and is well worth the visit even if you do not have a specific reason to go there; for example, to research your family history or find a quiet space to work. The librarians are wonderfully friendly and helpful and provide a great service for people interested in tracking down Guernsey ancestors.

This is a little gem. A wonderful old library with many original books dating back to 18th century. They also gave a wonderful collection of original papers dating back 200 years. There are not many libraries where you can touch rare books!

The Priaulx library is an attractive 18th century building that was formerly called Candie House, not too surprisingly it is to be found in Candie Gardens near the museum. The building was given to the people of Guensey by its former owner Osmond Priaulx and it became a library in 1889.This library specialises in local history and contains many archives including newspapers. If you are trying to research one’s family history this is a good place to visit. The staff were very helpful and quickly found a number of relevant documents (e.g. real newspapers, microfiche files etc) which enabled me to find out some interesting details of the time my Mum spent working on Guernsey just after WW2. One cannot just copy these documents but for a very small fee the staff scanned all the relevant pages and emailed these to me very promptly. If one cannot visit the library and search in person I believe one can pay to have the librarians do the research for you – needless to say this is a much more expensive option I believe. Even if one doesn’t want to trace personal history the library is a fascinating place to visit with many interesting books.

Got a question about Guernsey or the people? You will probably find the answer here! They can give you help to find the answers you are seeking, or can do it for you (for a price, of course). It's well worth contacting them even before you arrive on Guernsey so they can begin checking with information they have for you.

The staff were very very helpful I went in while on holiday to try and do some research on my family tree, they told the best way to start with the information that I had they also showed me how to use the file films and got me going they also booked it for me all day so I could nip out get a bit to eat and then come back knowing that machine would still be there for me to use. And that the end of the day they were still helping me out.

This place is fantastic! A really quaint oldy worldy library full of books going back years and listings. The people who run it are so helpful when we tried to find out records for the family. We were charged a nominal sum for a print out of records and were very appreciative of them spending time assisting us.
Well worth the visit if you are tracing ancestors who lived on Guernsey - try to give the library as much info as possible to assist them.

Situated near the museum by the Candie gardens this old building was full of artifacts and historical books. It was a wonderful place to sit peacefully for a little while. Upstairs we watched a very informative historical video.
