Something interesting and free out of the rain
Aug 2021 • Couples
If you are child-free and looking to spend time.e indoors on a rainy day, this provided some unexpected entertainment. They have a newspaper library upstairs worth a look - had fun reading old papers published from way back. Also, so.e short videos of the island's history although sound quality was not great.

Hidden Gem for Some

Located near Candie Gardens, Priaulx Library is housed in an incredible, historic building. The building itself is worth a visit but, the book collections (and furnishings) are the icing on the cake. Staff are friendly and helpful. Special temporary exhibits are often displayed here. Anyone interested in architecture, history, or libraries should definitely visit.

Situated near the museum by the Candie gardens this old building was full of artifacts and historical books. It was a wonderful place to sit peacefully for a little while. Upstairs we watched a very informative historical video.

Popped in for half an hour and what a lovely place. Some lovely books and lots of local history. Shelves, furniture etc was all quite old and generally the place had an historic feel to it. Welcoming staff.

Fascinating History Tour

The Priauix Library is located up the hill from downtown and is best approached via the Candle Gardens....is a restful place to get away from the tourists. The library is housed in an 18th building with numerous interesting books, newspapers and magazines. The library just reeks history and is worth some times when on Guernsey. Its free and fascinating.

Great place to trace family or local history
Aug 2018 • Couples
The Priaulx library is an attractive 18th century building that was formerly called Candie House, not too surprisingly it is to be found in Candie Gardens near the museum. The building was given to the people of Guensey by its former owner Osmond Priaulx and it became a library in 1889.This library specialises in local history and contains many archives including newspapers. If you are trying to research one’s family history this is a good place to visit. The staff were very helpful and quickly found a number of relevant documents (e.g. real newspapers, microfiche files etc) which enabled me to find out some interesting details of the time my Mum spent working on Guernsey just after WW2. One cannot just copy these documents but for a very small fee the staff scanned all the relevant pages and emailed these to me very promptly. If one cannot visit the library and search in person I believe one can pay to have the librarians do the research for you – needless to say this is a much more expensive option I believe. Even if one doesn’t want to trace personal history the library is a fascinating place to visit with many interesting books.

Full of helpfulness and information

Got a question about Guernsey or the people? You will probably find the answer here! They can give you help to find the answers you are seeking, or can do it for you (for a price, of course). It's well worth contacting them even before you arrive on Guernsey so they can begin checking with information they have for you.

A Fantastic place to start your 'Family' Trace
Jun 2018 • Couples
I was advised by the Information office to try the Priaulx library as I wanted to trace my family who came from Guernsey. They helped enormously and led me on my way to tracing my Guernsey family back many generations. I could not have done this without their help. Many thanks to 'Jean' who was so instrumental in my journey back to my roots!

A wealth of information
Aug 2017 • Couples
We visited Guernsey for the day. We were on a mission to visit the school my father attended pre WW2 and wanted to discover if there was any reference to what.my father might have done .
Not only did we see the school the Librarians were extremely helpful and we found references to my father including photographs of him and classmates.
A visit to this library is a must if you want to learn the history of Guernsey
