The Stained Glass Museum offers a unique insight into the fascinating history of stained glass, an art-form that has been practised in Britain for at least thirteen hundred years. Our permanent gallery displays over 125 stained glass panels representing eight hundred years of the history of this ancient art, from the thirteenth century to the present day. All the stained glass panels in the gallery are displayed at eye-level enabling visitors to have a rare close-encounter with the art of stained glass. Temporary exhibitions are also held throughout the year, highlighting panels and designs from the Museum's reserve collection.

My partner and I visited on a Sunday afternoon and had the museum to ourselves. It is small - one gallery - but well laid out and contains an excellent selection of mostly Victorian glass. Two short videos tell you the background of stained glass...More

The place the windows are in is small and long. Shame they could do with a special room, for the windows only. The windows were amazing.

I did the "full tour" of Ely Cathedral (£18 and valid 12 months), which included the Cathedral itself, Octagon Tour (see separate review), and the Stained Glass museum. There are some examples (mainly fragments) from medieval times but it most pieces are Victorian (and the...More

Given my preference for old glass I would have liked to see a greater skew towards that but the range of Georgian-Victorian glass was interesting. Those with a taste for the modern are well served.

I was not expecting to find a stained glass museum however this is certain not unwelcome to see it all close up. I have never been in such a gallery before it included a moderate selection of medieval stain glass then though to 18th century...More

Although this was a great museum for all things stained glass I found the information panels about each piece, very difficult to see and read. The text was very small indeed, often you have larger header text, followed by a subheading to give you the...More
