I must be biased because my father used to work in a little local museum but I find these places fun and amusing. The effort they go to to collect and preserve their local identity is amazing. The pride for their local area is great. I learnt a lot from being there, more so than Oliver Cromwell's house. We need... More

Ely is a beautiful place and this little museum was informative about local history etc. We enjoyed having a look around. Doesn't take very long to get around it but it has enough information to keep you busy for an hour or so.

We visited this museum and spend over an hour there. It is very well organized by time and runs from prehistoric up to the present. Not a large museum, but a great deal of information is packed into it. Wonderful signs/posters explain many items, events, points in history. Good for children, too, because there are hands on activities spaced throughout... More

We had been some years ago but several exhibits have changed. Wheelchairs are now provided on both floors with a connecting stair lift which one of us used. Exhibits tracing Ely and the Fens over the centuries all most absorbing and well presented in the limited space available. Recommend to all visitors to Ely whether or not interested in history.... Not much to look at from the outside, but exhibits inside are well laid out, and the narrative follows themes well. The role of the fens and their draining, and the effects on which industries became viable or not viable.

This museum tells about the history of life in the fens, and is on 2 floors with a variety of displays and videos. There are toilets, and there are eating opportunities nearby.
