I have enjoyed the burgers at the Alex but not tried the Mains so I ordered fish pie .I was amazed at how big it was.It arrived sizzling hot and really enough for two.It had a cheesy top and a very generous amount of fish without being bulked up with potato like they often are.
The pub was very crowded but the staff seemed to manage to get the food out reasonably quickly.
Very good value and delicious. I will be back.

Always the best burgers in town with great service and a friendly welcome.
If you're in on a Sunday, then Sunday lunch is also excellent.
I just keep coming back and coming back.
Tight range of well kept beers too.

Great pub - been there many times over the years and I seem to have been there more during the pub openings between the lockdowns than any other around Cambridge. The staff during the pandemic have been excellent, very strict but fair and the service has been very good. As always, the burgers have been lovely. Can't fault it really - great job guys.

This place was near to where we were staying in the city so we called in for lunch. Premises is very Covid secure, Friendly staff from the get-go. Great little beer garden. Ordering by app was quick and easy to follow. Staff came to check that there hadn;t been any problems with ordering. We'd all ordered burgers - there was no delay and the food was fabulous. We would recommend this pub to others.

Friendly bar manager. Great juicey homemade burgers, though no onion or gherkin witth it despite being told it came with it. Good chips. Good bargain before 2pm as it works out at about £6.50 apiece. Disppointing no gherkin or onion!!

This place is a bit offset (although not more than 3 minutes away from a main street) but it’s authentic and quiet, and everyone, from the staff to the customers, is extremely nice and generous. And the food is homemade under your eyes and delicious.
A perfect, flawless experience as we stopped there for lunch as a family of 5.
Will definitely return.

This pub has changed hands almost every two years and "Greedy King" have struggled to get people to run it. The last landlord at least managed to negotiate a beer price similar to the other pubs in the area.
The pub is friendly and has had a facelift since we last went in. Busy weekend evening when we went in recently.
The bar staff leave a lot to be desired. They gave me the wrong drink twice and gave me a look that said, it was my fault! They need some training!
£9.20 for an average pint of Buntingford and a 175ml glass of wine is £2 over the odds. The food looks good but the prices are again high. Good luck to them but the local Cambridge Blue, Geldart and Kingston Arms offer better fare for much less!! Pity as l liked the place.

Having lived locally for 7 years, the Alex is by my reckoning into its fourth incarnation in that time. And thankfully those over-seeing the latest re-launch have had the good sense to give the area something it didn’t already have, putting its focus on ‘burgers, brews & banter’. So taking those one at a time ...
Burgers: an essentially simple dish but very easy to get wrong; cheap and/or pre-prepared ingredients being the standard error. The Alex did not disappoint. The burger itself was cooked to order and as requested (medium in my case), and was well-seasoned. A side of fries were reassuringly irregularly cut rather than bulk-bought & frozen. We benefitted from a 2-for-1 deal on the burgers but they are easily worth the full price and justify a visit on their own.
Brews: the Alex is a Greene King pub but the brewery does seem to allow it to go off-piste. In an area dominated by independent pubs and a strong real ale bias this is a wise decision (and incidentally that freedom extends to the decor, and the new incumbents have taken great care to give the Alex a bit of character). I only had a cursory look at the numerous taps before going with a bottle of Brooklyn Lager (it was lunchtime and a session wasn’t an option ...). There’s a touch of the craft beer aspect to the brews which I guess will see some rotation for future visits and keep things fresh.
Banter: naturally some of this comes down to the company you keep! Having been greeted on arrival by the new landlord, Ed, he’s more than capable of keeping his part of the bargain. Subsequent punters were equally well received. The last landlord would occasionally tweet negatively about customers but early signs here are of a far more astute approach to social media which also reflects Ed’s positive character.
It’s been great to see this place busy when I’ve reluctantly walked past of an evening and look forward to popping in again. Welcome to the neighbourhood guys!

Nice selection of ales and craft beer on tap
Bar server was a little disinterested when serving us originally
My boyfriend had a crack and chip in his glass which we didn't notice until we got outside, he returned the beer to the bar and the barmaid poured the beer into another glass and handed it back to him without saying anything.
I have always received a fresh drink if the glass is cracked when it's served, as I believe is health and safety standard.. Or at least an 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience' if nothing else

Really friendly atmosphere and staff but a couple of things get in the way of making this our new favourite pub! the food is too expensive for what it is. £11.50 for an average salad. I'd be happy to pay £9. And burgers should either include chips at that price OR knock a couple of quid off price... Cold inside (light the fire- its January!) and wineglass unpolished BUT really lovely bartender, music and decor :-)
