About
The Emperor Pub is still Cambridge's number one stop for real ale, quality food, a selection of wines. It's a live music venue plus function room.

No, not really !

Sadly, via Trip Advisor, I booked prior to a gig with my partner a table for 2 for Tapas and drinks . Unfortunately the description does not live up to its expectations ( including the website which clearly bigs it up) . On arrival , well dodgy, big screen, local hombres who looked at us threateningly, not the lovely experience I was hoping for.

Waste of time, typical Cambridge vibes

Do not bother heading for this 'pub' for a drink, I called in at 9.50 pm and was told " they had had a bad day" so we're not serving any more? I used to visit regularly a few years ago when there was live music but when it turned into a 'tapas bar' the clientele changed and unless your 'face fitted' ie not a student it rapidly went downhill, there were less than 10 people in there tonite. Check out the reviews, there are no more than a dozen praising the place. STEER CLEAR!

Surprisingly Good

Looking at it from the outside, I would normally stay clear. However, after a 16 hour work day me and my colleagues had limited choice because it was late at night. So we went in. At first my second impression wasn't much better, we were clearly in a pub and it had that atmosphere. We ordered food and asked the waitress to selected a few of her favourite dishes. The food came and it was amazing. It is a Tapas pub, if that is really a thing. Great chef.

First time I have Latin food and specially Peruvian food in Cambridge, definitely will go again, the "Lomo Saltado" and the "Arroz con Mariscos" my favourites! And not only great food but also a relax space in the ground floor for drinks and dance!

Excellent food, friendly service

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent meal here with my father and 5 month old baby. The waitress Gloria was attentive and friendly and gave good suggestions from the menu. Between 3 adults we had 6 dishes which was the perfect amount. All the dishes were amazing but the Ceviche was the best - as good as the ones we've had in South America. The car park at the back was a bonus. We will definitely be back.

Ate here just yesterday with the rugby. Staff were very friendly and even turned the TV over to allow us to watch the rugby whilst eating. What can I say about the food other than WOW.... I wanted to try every dish. Small sharing portions but enough to satisfy your hunger. I would recommend the beef strips and the the sea bass fillets with calamari and whitebait.

Exceptional food and some interesting beers
Feb 2016 • Family
Wanted to try this after hearing it had turned into a South American themed tapas bar. The interior is light and airy. Tables well spaced. A far cry from the dark wood of the old Emperor. The menu is about 20 items and we (2 adults & a 3 year old) needed 5 items. Prices vary a lot, so you have the option of pushing the boat out if you like. Portions seem reasonable.
I can't fault the chef. The quality of the food is top notch. The marinated beef heart slices were brilliant as were the chuletas - with well balanced flavours.
The bottled beer selection is very large - everything from Newcastle Brown to Brahma.

Suffice to say I can't wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the menu.

A great place to gather your friends

Friendly staff. Nice location - a good place to play pool and darts. You would't spent much money in this pub and the beer is good.

What a racket

I used to drink in here when it was the Globe years ago and I've been in a few times pre-refurb as the Emperor. The decor has improved since the refurb but the music certainly hasn't. Because they've decided to market it as a 'tapas' pub some bright spark has decided that they'll only play this toe-curlingly dire latino music at a volume to make your ears bleed.

Take note Emperor - you are not a nightclub. People going to the pub do actually want to talk to each other. I don't think I'll bother going there again.
