Bitter Disappointment
Nov 2021
Took family to the mill after the Covid months, really looking forward to returning to our favourite local cafe. The food was legendary, the Homity Pie sublime......

The cafe looked different, there were empty tables, there were no queues? We looked at the menu and it was totally different. I approached the woman serving and asked if they still did Homity Pie, her reply was an abrupt and rude No. I was taken aback and felt inclined to leave with the family and go elsewhere however they preferred to give it a try.
We did....the verdict.....tasteless.....overpriced.....uninspiring. We won’t be returning despite many years of patronage. Very sad.

Small mill
Oct 2021
Walked here after visiting Peak Village. it was quite difficult to find the entrance but that was our mistake as we followed the signs for the car park rather than continuing further along the road. The mill is small but nice to look round and there is a nice well stocked gift and craft shop. We did hope to get something to eat but it said the cafe was vegetarian so we didnt stop.

funny little place
Oct 2021
Coming from one direction there is no indication of a car park. we roamed through the old mill building without another soul in sight. Nice little gift shop which sold the flour from the mill. Across the street from the Peak Village Shopping Village, so if you stop at one, stop at the other.

Amazing
Oct 2021 • Family
Just wow! Visited this place with my family (my husband and 3 children) We ate at the cafe and the food was to die for, so much choice, prices were fantastic and the food was just beautiful. Portion sizes were amazing. Everything was freshly made, the staff were lovely and the head chef went above and beyond to cater for my children. A great atmosphere. We can’t wait to return. The place was super clean. The cakes were gorgeous, we ended up buying more to bring home.
We enjoyed visiting the shops and walking through the mill, the children loved it. We brought flour, sauces and a few treats from the gift shop. The candles are amazing.
Thank you all

Cafe owners have changed. Not worth a visit now. Sad!
Jul 2021 • Friends
Lack lustre, terrible salad and Hummus, we didn't eat any of it. Coffee OK and Waitress was nice. Won't be going again. This used to be our go to place before lockdown. Who ever took this Cafe over has changed everything. Sad.

Interesting machinery and shop.
Aug 2021
Good to see a lot of period machinery in working order and the little shop was interesting with lots of locally produced items. Of particular interest were the different varieties of flour from the mill and my wife purchased three different one to try. Worth a visit.

Standard gift shop. Not much craft
Jun 2021 • Couples
Nice shop, although not many “craft” items given the name of the place. The art gallery was lovely but just a shame that the shop itself didn’t have very much local stuff and it was more your standard gift shop.

Things change,so far not for the better
Jul 2021
Regular customers over the years. A great shock yesterday to see it so changed.,in every way.
We went primarily for the food, always varied and excellent.
Understand it has been taken over by the trust, and we wish them well. They will have to come up with something immeasurably better to have it become anywhere near the popular venue it was before.
Know it's early days, but will give it another chance later, but it has a long way to go to keep its customers .

Disappointed
Jul 2021 • Couples
So disappointed to visit Caudwells Mill yesterday for the first time for months and find that the shop has changed hands and is so much poorer. The stock and range of goods is much reduced and it feels open, cavernous and uninviting. The staff are tucked away behind a counter at the far end of the shop and not at the front to greet customers. Gone is the pleasure of browsing a huge range of quirky goods. Particularly sad for me is that what was the best range of cards and gift wrap anywhere has been reduced to a small range displayed on a partly inaccessible wall to the side. I have never been in and out of this shop so quickly and I can't remember when I last left empty handed. Such a disappointment and a change for the worse.

Where’s the rustic charm gone?
Jul 2021 • Family
The gorgeous pew style benches have gone! The style is too modern for me now. Don’t mind changes in keeping with the setting but disappointed with these.
We used to look forward to the homemade cakes with the cream and fresh fruit on top but these were no longer there. Millers lunch was also missed as this was a favourite as was the homemade bread that used to be served. Why get rid of good old favourites?
However, the soup was delicious and the veggie salad bowl was too. Just missed the old amazing bread and cakes. Bring them back!
