Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

My family visits the Butchart Gardens every year. We live in Victoria and make it a priority to enjoy this beautiful spot every year and enjoy the fireworks. We went with our extended family last Saturday. The gardens were as beautiful as always. We enjoyed...More

Easily, one of best places to see so many flowers - of so many types and colors and origins - arranged in such a pleasing format over this huge garden in Victoria. Italian Garden, Japanese Garden, A whole area devoted to so many species of...More

I went to Butchart Gardens with my boyfriend and 2 kids. The cost to get in was overpriced I think. $101.00 just to enter look and flowers and walk around. It was something we did cause it was listed as #1 place to visit. I...More

This is such a lovely attraction I don't know why it took me so long to visit! On a beautiful summer day it is hard to beat. We thoroughly enjoyed the boat trip into Todd inlet and Brentwood Bay (extra cost). The gardens are immaculately...More

A variety of garden types -- Rose, Japanese, rock quarry covered with flowers -- but not as overwhelming as the "55 acres" sounds. Plan on spending at least two hours to see all of the gardens, which are planted differently for each season, so the...More

One of the disadvantages of visiting Victoria via cruise is that often your ship gets there at sunset, so you are condemned to view everything under the vail of darkness, with some sprinkled artificial lighting that will prove grossly inadequate. I have seen many botanical...More

It was beautiful, I had visited as a child and forgotten how well kept and lovely it is. The admission price was exorbitant however! It is sad that people with families will turn away because of that price.

Breathtaking beautiful! Full of flowers, picture perfect. The Dining Room's afternoon tea is very traditional and sooooooo delicious, especially those sandwiches.

Hi Vicky and Tommy, Starting June 15th, the gates are open until 10pm, with viewing until 11pm. Depending on when you are visiting in June, it typically gets dark around 9 so you'll see the gardens at dusk and after dark... More

Buchart Gardens is open in January, but be mindful it's winter so you will not see blooming roses, etc., however the shrubs and trees are beautiful.
