Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

This is our second time here in 11 years and the gardens are as beautiful as remembered. Everything was in bloom and really gorgeous. There were quite a few visitors today so recommend getting to the gardens early. The whole family really enjoyed the visit.

The Gardens were so colorful during this trip. We so enjoyed ourselves. We went on Saturday for the fireworks so we're at the gardens a long time. In future, for fireworks, I'd suggest arriving about 3 or 4. Reservations for afternoon tea and the dining...More

Absolutely beautiful garden, like nothing I have ever seen before. My favorite was the Sunken Garden (probably one of the most photographed spots) because it was very interesting to see how the garden was created in the limestone quarry. I also loved the Japanese garden...More

I assume everyone in the world knows where the Butchart Gardens are because the signage driving out of Victoria leaves a lot to be desired. That said in fairness when we finally found it I rather suspect I could not add anything that has not...More

Went as part of a tour group, so we were limited on our time in the gardens. Trees flowers and sculptures as far as you can see. To take a giant pit and turn it in to this beautiful place had of been the undertaking...More

A must see in Victoria B.C. Beautiful Gardens, wonderful walking paths. Unfortunately the many different flowers and plants are not marked with names. The snack bar is over-priced, no surprise, and has a poor selection of treats. If you stay past 4 PM on days...More

Thank you for your interest in The Butchart Gardens and for taking time to write a review. The summer entertainment program is part of our general admission ticket. There is NO EXTRA CHARGE for lovely evenings on the Concert Lawn (for the concerts) or for...More

You must go to Butchart Gardens when you visit Victoria. It is the best garden I've ever seen. The Begonias were blooming when we went and I didn't realize the varieties and colors. We lucked out because we went before the summer rush. So, we...More

The fireworks show is spectacular. The aerial fireworks are ok, but I've seen better, but the ground based fireworks, music, water effects and the venue add up to make it special. A combination of a good 4th of July show, A Disneyland fireworks show and...More

Expect to spend at least a couple of hours to soak the beauty in. Lots of shady areas to sit and meditate if you go during off-peak hours. There was a mob when we went on Canada day weekend, but still very delightful to wander...More

Lovely gardens and a lot to see. Easy to get around but a little difficult in places if you have mobility problems. Fine if you take it easy. I went in early Summer and the flowers were just stunning. Nice gift shop and restaurant. Can...More

Brian S
we will be visiting the gardens off a cruise in the evening from 8pm till 11pm at the end of June 2017- will it still be too light out for the lights to take effect on the pathways and gardens. Will it even be worth the expense to go at this time of night?

I have not been there at night, so I would not be able to tell you. However, I figure it would still be light for a lot of the time then.
