Our day on the water with guide Tommy Child was amazing - his professionalism, traditional knowledge, and the abundance of wildlife made for an epic day. We set out of Port Hardy in a fog bank but were quickly clear of it and learning about ancient First Nations use of all that the land and waters had to offer.

We were mesmerized by Dall and Harbour porpoises, sea lions, large numbers of sea otters (our main attraction) and we finished off the day being entertained by humpback whales. I really appreciated that Tom ensured that we were leaving ample room between the boat and the animals and at no point did I feel like we were harassing them.

The open zodiac tour was a lot of fun and by providing us all with buffs it ensured that we all wore masks when we weren't able to keep distant from each other. Just a stunning trip that I look forward to taking in again in the future.

I strongly recommend this company.

We booked a birding excursion to Triangle Island to see Tufted Puffins, with Andrew and his team from Coastal Rainforest Safaris. The tour was awesome! Everyone on the boat was impressed. The team did an excellent job ensuring that everyone was able to see what we were hoping to see. No one was disappointed! We saw thousands of birds (literally) including lots of Tufted Puffins and Common Murre's. Others we saw included Surf Scoters, White Winged Scoters, Black Oystercatchers, Rhinoceros Auklets, Cassin's Auklets, Red Necked Phalaropes, Pelagic Cormorants, Peregrine Falcons, Bald Eagles, and plenty of Sea Lions. While we were enjoying the scenery of Triangle Island we were served an awesome lunch served on proper plates which was a nice touch and they even met our dietary needs. This was the most beautiful place ever to eat lunch! Oh, we should mention that there is a washroom on board so you don't need to worry about that. The trip to and from Triangle Island is long (we were out for a total of 9 hours) but the boat stopped multiple times along the way so that we could have a snack they provided as well as see large groups of birds, some smaller groups too as well as some Sea Otters. I should also say that Andrew was wonderful throughout the booking process by quickly responding to any questions that we had. We were pleased from start to finish. We definitely recommend this tour to anyone who likes birds.

This day trip was so much fun! William was able to keep us safe & calm amid rough water while still looking out for mammals for us to see! we were lucky enough to see humpbacks, orcas, otters and more. we appreciated that once we had been around an animal for a bit, we drove off and didn’t overstay our welcome. Anna back at the shop was super friendly and helpful. we felt grateful that Andrew, one of the owners, came along and shared his knowledge and stories with us. Special thanks to Zoe, who was absolutely incredible over email and helped me book everything that made our trip special, offering her advice and knowledge along the way. thank you for having us.

We booked the Sea Otter and Whale Watching 5.5-6hr tour (which personally as a female is too long to be on a Zodiac wearing a survival suit with no safe route to the toilet if you are not sitting in the very back row). There was no mention of sea otters at all - not like they are a guarantee but I was hoping we would look in certain areas they might be known to be found, but that did not happen as we were floating in open ocean for 98% of our tour. It is hard to put into words the whole experience as both guides were very friendly, they kept us safe in very rough water and we did see whales/wildlife but there was a strong sense of inexperience. We stayed further away from the whales than any other tour I have ever been on (there was mention of them hitting a whale by accident and I believe it has led them to be extra cautious but to the extreme distance) We really didn't search for anything we just floated and happened to see whales. If you have been on tours with experienced guides you will understand the difference.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We tried contacting you by email shortly after your tour to discuss your concerns but never heard back. It is disappointing that you did not get the opportunity to view sea otters during your tour. Your guides had made the decision to first follow up on reports of both humpback whales and orcas in a direction opposite of our main sea otter viewing area. While watching the whales both the wind and waves picked up and they decided traveling against the wind and waves all the way to the main sea otter viewing would be uncomfortable for all involved and continued to view the humpback whales. Your concerns have been discussed with the whole team and how that particular tour may have been handled differently, including better communicating the reason you did not go to the main sea otter viewing area. I hope if you find yourself back in Port Hardy you will join us for another trip.

Thank you again for the wonderful experience first hand to observe wildlife in their element.

Andrew led a wonderful trip and shared his abundant knowledge of the area. We witnessed Sea Otters cleaning, feeding and relaxing with hands behind head, mama Humpback and calf diving deep, showing tail fins again and again, hearing each blow... Many Sheerwater birds, Rhinosoraus Aucklets, and more, and Stellar Sealions on haul outs! We even had Dalls Porpoise join us at the end.

What I loved most was that the animals weren't disturbed by us, that I was super warm in the outfit attire provided by CRS, and the abundance of skill and knowledge by the guide!

Can't wait for my next visit!!! This is must up here!

What an amazing day on the water. We were guided on our trip by William who was excellent throughout, full of information and facts, knew all the best places to go and how to get close to the wildlife whilst fully respecting their space. We also enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch on one of the Islands. Within minutes of leaving Port Hardy we encountered our first sea otters, and this was followed with six or seven Humpback sightings, an entire nursery of Sea otter mums with their babies, over forty Bald Eagles feeding on a fish ball, several black bears, porpoise, seals and sea lions aplenty. The weather was great and this part of the world in northern Vancouver Island is just stunning. We would happily spend all day on the water. Thanks William and the team.

I highly recommend doing a tour with Coastal Rainforest Safaris! They obey the Covid-19 rules and It was a pleasure to listen to Mike. Beside the tour he also told us more about life in the sea and Indigenous history. We really enjoyed and Mike made sure we took great photos!

I guess we should have realised we’d hit the jackpot, when 5 minutes into the trip we came across a black bear, closely followed by a wolf, we certainly weren’t expecting that!

After this we came across sea otters, a quick sighting of dolphins and just about had time for a couple of eagles before it was time for a very tasty lunch.

The action didn’t slow after this, when we had a couple of brief sightings of humpback whales, before moving on to observe sea lions.

Just when we thought we were heading back to base when we came across orcas, and Andrew very kindly extended the trip so we had time to observe them before calling it a day!!

We’ve been on a few whale watching trips in our time, but this will take some beating…………….

Should add, the trip was easy to book, extremely well organised and although Tracey often suffers from seasickness, and had taken some tablets, she was fine and well looked after.

Overall, we would thoroughly recommended this trip if you find yourself in the area.

We had a wonderful time today with Andrew our guide, visiting the islands, coves and waters around Port Hardy. Andrew (one of the owners of the company) was a terrific host and guide, as he was very safety oriented, respectful of the wildlife and knowledgeable about the area. We saw Humpback whales, sea otters, sea lions, seals, bald eagles and many birds, as well as breathtaking scenery. Lunch was a bonus, with a healthy salad, well made sandwich and home baked cookie, with your choice of hot beverage. This was one of the highlights of our three week Island tour - highly recommend. Great value for the money spent. A shout out to Zoe in the office as well - she was very friendly and helpful. Thanks!

We deliberately left our trip until Port Hardy as we felt the remoteness would mean lack of tourists and wildlife more unspoilt. That was certainly the case.
Covered a huge distance in our rhino boat and saw loads e.g. otters, sea lions, porpoises, eagle and whales.
Big shout to our driver called William - very understated / lovely guy. It seemed that he had made the light lunch which was simple, tasty and just what needed.
I would definitely recommend.
Understand they are going to be doing both 3 hour and 6 hour tours going forwards.
