Girl behind plexiglass was friendly and gave us a good booklet for hiking trails on the north Island called "Off the Beaten Path." It rates all the trails in terms of ease, the length, location, and estimated hiking time. It also had advertised amenities like taxi service, resorts, and restaurants. It's such a valuable resource. The small Centre also had gifts (t-shirts were on sale!) and the typical free maps. Only 3 people allowed max inside.

My husband and I spent a week in Port Hardy during August and visited the Visitors Centre several times. We booked our Whale Watching trip through them. The staff were very polite and helpful each time.

The people who work here do such an amazing job they are always very helpful in giving me great ideas on different thing to do on the north end of the island! They will even call places for me to see if they have availability. There little gift shop has some neat local things to pick up while there as well!

I just wanted to put in a word regarding this visitor centre. Some visitor centres are not that great but this one was well stocked as well as the staff member I spoke with was very knowledgable about the area. Friendliness is always a bonus and much appreciated

Really helpful knowledgeable staff. Wish we had gone in here earlier - would have saved us some time. We also got to find the trails that we wouldn't have gone to without their help.

Went here first thing on entering town, found they had moved! Gave an address for their new location, but how the heck does that help us out-of-towners? We need a map to find the new location, eh? Come to think of it, a rack with simple maps and a few brochures would have helped. Think like a tourist, people!

Hi Chris,
We are so sorry that we missed you. We had a major flood in the building and we had to vacate while it was being restored. We are back in now and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our visitors. I hope you will come again.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth

We will be arriving in Port Hardy on a ferry from Prince Rupert around midnight September 20th, 2022. We will have our camper van with us and are wondering where is the nearest acceptable place to camp/ sleep for a night? (prefer not at an RV park, …but if that’s all that’s available…). Thanks for any insight.

Hi there:). I have two questions, and thought this would be the easiest way to find things out. We hope to land in Port Hardy later on in Sept. We will need to get to Port McNeill to catch the Ferry to Alert Bay. When we land, is there a cab service that we can grab to get to Port McNeill? Also, how long will it take to get there. Not long, I think, but not real sure, it's been a few years. Thanks so much.

Hello, Super exciting you are coming to see the North Island. I can definitely help with your questions. We have two Taxi company's that will have cars waiting at the air port for when you arrive and if not one will be around shortly after arrival. The trip to Port McNeill will only take roughly half an hour so it should give you plenty of time to make it to the boat. I hope this has helped, and that you have a wonderful trip.
