The National Trust tea-room is open daily throughout the year serving homemade cakes, hot and cold lunches, drinks and ice creams. Notices inviting you to ask about allergies, but prepare to have your head bitten off when you do!
Apr 2021 • Solo
Notices all over the cafe take out about catering for allergies, but when asking for anything lactose free there’s nothing I could have. I also got a very rude and firm lecture about them having to buy milk from the local farmer. I pointed out that if they can buy the odd carton of soya and oat milk, then they could buy the odd carton of lactose free ordinary milk. The girl got very argumentative and told me that soya milk or oat milk was good enough and “ what more do you want!”

Zero choice, appalling attitude.

Very kind staff

My daughter was returning from her Duke of Edinburgh expedition and wanted to buy two ice creams. It turned out she was out of funds. Her card was declined twice, and the lady behind the till bought them for her from her personal funds! What a kind-hearted lady. Thank you so much!

No care for customers.
Mar 2021
Just as the country is trying to creep back to some normality, on Monday lunchtime, two ladies who had done a 'long walk' and wanted a drink, declared loudly they 'had no masks' entered the takeaway holding a T shirt up over their mouths, dodged backwards and forwards past people to get cold drinks, again remarked on their 'long walk' and eventually paid and left. This isn't fair on your staff and most definately gives no thought for the safety of other customers. I most definately will bring my own food, drink in future. Avoid!! A sign saying 'masks must be worn' just doesn't cut it. Also, though understandable maybe, the price of food has rocketed.

Poor selection and rude service
Oct 2020
Our visit on 1st October was disappointing. The cafe wasn't serving hot chocolate or latte and the choice of sandwiches was poor. We ordered filter coffee and tea and the service was abrupt bordering on rude. Tasteless egg sandwiches and extremely dry fruit scones. The menu has obviously been pared down so it should have been much better.

Nice food,cracking view

Visited for coffee and cake. Great views outside and plenty of room inside

Cake was lovely, I could have eaten the entire cake. Coffee did the trick and there was a reasonable selection of soft drinks for mini me.

Well Worth a visit

Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed our homemade cake and we quite agree it’s the perfect accompaniment to a warming coffee or refreshing brew. There’s nothing nicer too than been able to enjoy a cake adventure with family or friends, young and old alike. The money you spend in the tearoom helps us to continue important conservation work in Ilam Park and other special places in the Peak District, so once again thank you for your contribution. We hope to welcome you back very soon.

Complete rip off
Dec 2019 • Family
Don't bother going here! It would be cheaper to hire a catering company and silver service with a butler than to have a drink and snack here. Typical national trust rip off designed around wealthy baby boomer pensioners and not a single thought for normal working families.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent visit to Ilam Park. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your visit to our Manifold Tea Room. We do take great care and pride in the food that we serve, most of which is made in-house using National Trust recipes, quality ingredients, is competitive locally and reflects the quality ingredients we use, such as 'Red Tractor' meats, free range eggs, which cost slightly more. We think the result is worth the few extra pence. By using local produce ensures that land and nature are looked after in the way that ingredients are produced, reared or grown, As a charity all of the profits made at the Ilam tea room, car park, shop and membership go directly into upkeep of the park and the conservation work we carry out in the Peak District ensuring that such places are kept for everyone to enjoy forever. A good way of making your visits more affordable is to take advantage of our National Trust Membership which allows free admission and car parking to our properties and you can visit as often as you wish.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our tea room and for the great feedback. We do hope you can visit us again soon. The tea room is looking very warm and inviting with all the Christmas decorations and from Friday 6th December is getting everyone in the Christmas spirit, with tempting festive treats and mulled wine, also why not pop in to the shop for some inspirational gift ideas. There’s shenanigans in the park with spot the reindeer wearing scarves! and Christmas cracker jokes and games on the Winter Wander Trail, Christmas trees twinkling in the park and have a peek inside Ilam Church, which from the 7th December, will be adorned with community decorated Christmas trees. Best Wishes for the festive season from all at Ilam Park.

Lunch with a view
Oct 2019
Visited today having parked here for a very reasonable £5 for the whole day,
walked to Dove dale, up Thorpe Cloud and back via the diversion route for dog owners. The sun was shining so delighted to be able to sit in the gardens with that amazing view after quite a hike. Was greeted in the tea room by a young lady with a lovely smile and was amazed at the considerable choice on offer. I chose the savoury tea ( yummy cheese scone with chutney and cream cheese ) plus a moreish luxury hot chocolate! Hubby went for jam roly poly and custard plus a pot of tea, all for just over £12, fantastic value especially considering the location. Our overall impression was of a place where you are made to feel like a valued customer and today will stay with us as one of our best on our first holiday in the Peak District

Cruelty free vegan options
Sep 2019
We were impressed with the friendly service provided by the member of staff who served us and helpfully checked the information file to let us know that the coconut flapjack, ginger cake and chocolate cookie were all suitable for vegans, which was a nice surprise. There is also a range of vegan and vegetarian savoury items available. The chocolate cookie and Americano were very enjoyable and the views from the outside seating area were lovely.

Coffee, cake and company
Jul 2019 • Friends
This is a lovely spot for a coffee and a cake and hands-down wins the prize for the best tea-room view! Whilst it’s very simple inside, the views outside are simply stunning. It’s always a lovely treat after a walk in the beautiful grounds.

Thank you for your comments about our tea room. It's great to hear that you enjoyed our food and of course, the fabulous view from the tea room garden - we may be biased, but we really think it's one of the best around.
