A lovely church
May 2018 • Couples
We visited Clisson recently on an excursion from a cruise on the River Loire. The church stands proud in the town, as well as the castle, and is well worth a visit for its rather different architecture. Inside there is a beautiful wall painting above the alter.

Living example of the evolution of church architecture
Sep 2016
We visited the church during the Days of Patrimony in mid September. It is free to visit during other times of the year as well. Just inside the left front entrance was a series of presentation boards explaining the evolution of the church and detailing how this building has evolved as a worship center since the 11th century. The presentation was a brief form of a substantial, beautifully researched, and complete history of the church building in spiral binding which was also available free of charge; however a donation would definitely be in order if visitors choose to take one of the spiral bound books. The presentation posters and the complete church history both point out particular areas of the church warrant close examination, but for me, the oldest part of the church, built in the 1000's at the back and to the far left was most interesting. You see in the picture this primitive chapel jutting out at the left. If you are an art/architecture history fan, you will definitely want to go inside and see this remarkable, building, see the evidence of its evolution, and track church architecture over most of the past 1000 years. Bear in mind courtesy when worship or prayer is in progress.

Worth a quick visit
Jun 2016 • Couples
If you're in Clisson don't forget to step inside the doors of this 14th to 15th century church. It is well preserved but apparently it was rebuilt about 150 years ago.
