The best time to visit is from middle March till end of June. Avoid weekend and public holidays as many people are coming from Wroclaw and there are many bicycles on the paths and restaurants are overcrowded. In the middle of the week is different. You can enjoy the silence and see many water birds. Unfortunately only limited number of paths are available for visitors. But still they are many very productive to watch birds. Please consider that it changes every year. Some ponds are dried out for the conservation and next year it could be full of water and birds. In east part you can stay in Dworek pod Herbem which is quite and not overcrowded place with good kitchen. It is 10 minutes drive from Gadzinowy Ponds and Grabownica. Also 10 minutes to Joachimówka where the ponds are also interesting.Personally it is the top place for birds photography for me in Poland because of the very nice light. 1. Stawy Milickie - light , water birds, woodpeckers. 2 . Biebrza - light and diversity of birds. 3. Ujście Warty - diversity but from long distance and not good light. In the west part you can stay in Hotel Naturum. They also have nice restaurant. Unfortunately this place is nightmare during weekends. Simply picnic area. It is also worth to walk in the forests close to the ponds. You can see many woodpeckers there. The official hides are interesting but only for bird watchers. On weekends only early in the morning as later many people are coming making a lot of noice. Even picnic close to them.

The Milicz Ponds (pol. Stawy Milickie) is large complex of artificial ponds (285 ponds, 77 sq. km) created in XIII century by monks of cistersian order. Still in use for fish farming. At the same time the place for thousands of birds (nearly 300 bird species is noticed). The Milicz Ponds has been transformed into formally protected natural reserve.
One can go for birdwatching - one of the best places you can find in Poland. But even if you are not interested there are great places for walking, biking and fish restaurants. The history lovers may decide to visit Milicz or Zmigrod.
Spending at least 1-2 days is good idea. There's a lot of overnight places, from homestays ("agroturystyka") to hotels.
