- Jennifer HEngland, United Kingdom25 contributionsWe had an fantastic all day trip. The pick up and drop off from our hotel in Hua Hin was seamless and efficient. The work that the Foundation does to rescue and care for mistreated animals is excellent and totally geared to the specific animal's needs. Our guide, whose name I didn't quite get (name tags might be useful) was a young lady from Florida who was extremely articulate and enthusiastic gave us a lot of information. In the morning we had a walking tour which did involve a lot of standing and listening for an hour and a half which may not be suitable for everyone, but there were so many animals to see and so many questions to ask. We learnt a lot. The buffet lunch was ample and very good and in the afternoon we had a safari on the bus to see more elephants, bears and tigers who have lovely enclosures. The only jarring note for us was right at the end being allowed to feed two elephants. Having heard all day about the use of animals as photo props or accessories for tourist gratification feeding the elephants was unnecessary. Too many people the world over think it is ok to feed animals they do not know. I hope that everyone who was on the tour will think twice in the future about animals being used for entertainment or photo ops.Visited February 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten March 1, 2025
- mvmd603 contributionsTotally worth it! We were lucky enough to get a last minute booking (one day in advance) for the full day tour, and we are very grateful. Honestly we thought about not doing it as we were staying in Bangkok and it is a 2.5-3 hr drive each way; BUT we happened to drive past an elephant spot in Bangkok where they were selling elephant rides and saw the elephants being mistreated and it made me continue the investigation and call directly about reserving the visit. They managed to squeeze us in and we just finished our visit and are in our private transfer back to Bangkok. Our main focus was to see the elephants but we really enjoyed the tour around the grounds and the experience of listening to all of the monkeys sing out to each other. There are cute deer and dogs all over the place (one followed us throughout the entire day), and we got to see some tigers and leopards quite up close. The buffet lunch was great and the view over the grounds while we took our lunch break was lovely to take in. Our guide Will was great, very informative and happy to answer questions (even several from a very curious little boy). You can tell he really enjoys being a part of the whole thing. At the end of the visit we got to feed two elephants (ours was blind) and it was a lovely experience. Although at first people might think it is a disadvantage that there is a no-touch-policy with the animals, the reality is that it makes the place that much more beautiful and reminds you of the horrors that these animals have all faced, and that the foundation of the organism is to protect the animals and provide a safe refuge. We were only in Bangkok for 5 days but we are very glad that we decided to take the time for this opportunity as our last day in Thailand. We definitely recommend the experience to everyone. P.S the monkeys perking their lips at you for kisses was adorable and a highlight of the dayVisited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 23, 2024
- The Punchy K8 contributionsI went to the WFFT on a friend's recommendation. I was warned of basic accommodation and little internet access. Transfer from Bangkok airport was straightforward and I was immediately met and welcomed by a Volunteer Coordinator who originated from the UK and shown to my room. Room was very basic but clean, as were the shared bathrooms. I took my own mosquito net - none were provided. Other volunteers were mainly female, from many different countries, and were around 18 - 28, and there were a group of people in their 60s also. Everyone was very friendly. I went for a week but would recommend 2 weeks minimum to really get into the groove. I am vegan and had good food at each meal in the Elephant Kitchen (which has wifi) - there is a Volunteers Kitchen as well where you can cook for yourself (I didn't use) - where there is also wifi. This is a really rare opportunity to get close to their 22 elephants - walking, feeding and washing. You do also have to carry banana tree logs about twice a week (called the Harvest) - these can be heavy (some being carried by 3 people but others could be light) - you can opt out if you have back issues, but it's really fun and builds comraderie so I really enjoyed the Harvests. There is also over 800 other animals that need feeding and cleaning out. WFFT get a lot more volunteers for the elephant side than the wildlife side so you may be more needed and more busy on the wildlife side. All animals were well cared for and looked happy and healthy. I would recommend a couple of weeks on each. I would definitely return and recommend.Visited March 2025Traveled soloWritten March 19, 2025
- Marianne G1 contributionTo do something totally different we chose to spent our 44th wedding anniversary at the WFFT, a more than great decision. We booked for 2 nights (6-8 March) and what an experience! We were guided to our room on poles by car, because it was quite far from the main building but near the gibbons as we learned later. From our terrace we had a nice view at the bushes and to our great surprise 2 elephants came passing by. By car we went back to the main building where we had a nice meal on the terrace with an excellent view. The next morning (our wedding day) during breakfast, we saw 3 elephants grouping together as if they wanted to say “you can make photos now”, so cute. At about 10 a.m. the tour started, partly by bus and partly walking. The tour guide had a great knowledge about most of the rescued animals. The stories often were heartbreaking, especially about the elephants, but also the way the monkeys, apes, wild cats, etc. had been maltreated. The morning was mostly walking and after lunch we were going to see the big cats, just recently saved from a zoo at Phuket. Because of the Covid time when there was no income, the zoo couldn’t afford to keep the cats anymore, so Edwin Wiek and his team made great effort to bring them to the park. (The other day a read he picked up some more cats.) The last part of the excursion we were allowed to feed 2 elephants, each one got a bucket full of watermelon parts. In the beginning most people were a bit scared but after feeding a couple of chunks it became big fun. We finished this great day with a nice dinner and a bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary and having had the opportunity to visit the park. I can only say, everybody who loves nature and its creatures, come and visit the WFFT, for one day just for the tour, or for a couple of days, enjoying the peace and quiet and of course, last but not least, the personnel who did their utmost to make our stay a great experience! Thank you for the lessons learned and for those who are going to visit, enjoy your time, it’s worth every Baht you spend!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 6, 2024
- DaveKo Lipe, Thailand1 contributionMy partner and I did the Full Day Tour yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were greeted on arrival, had a brief talk from our guide about what to expect etc, and put into an open-air bus. The morning segment was mostly about Gibbons and Macaques, some bears, along with a few introduced animals such as a Cassowary from Australia, tortoises and deer included. Most of these were seen on a nice walk through trees. After two hours we then headed back to the restaurant for a Thai style buffet lunch which was fresh and tasty made to suit foreigners palate ( not spicy! ) with good vegetarian options. At lunch you have a great view of elephants and plenty of good photo ops. The afternoon was about elephants, bears and big cats, especially tigers, leopards, a puma and Fishing Cats. There is also an Orangutan but he was hiding yesterday, and an island with a Chimpanzee that has been rescued from many years in a small cage in a Bangkok school. We also came across some cute otters in an enclosure, plus saw some Hornbills that had been rescued. The tour finished with the guests hand feeding a couple of elephants. The tour guide Natalie was excellent, giving in-depth information on all the animals including where they were rescued from, names, ages, personalities and what was planned for some of them in the future. I highly recommend doing the full day tour as the afternoon trip had more diversity than the morning. Take a hat, plenty of water, and a hand towel as it gets pretty hot out there. Highly recommended!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 22, 2024
- RC76London, United Kingdom64 contributionsWhat an incredible rescue centre this is. I’d recommend anyone to visit or volunteer. This was my second stay here volunteering on the elephant project and it was just as wow and rewarding as the first time. The volunteers ranged from 18-67 so it’s never too late to come here and fulfil a dream of working behind the scenes with these magnificent creatures. That said, it can be quite physical especially during harvest so a level of physical fitness is needed to some extent if you work on the elephant project. The WFFT is somewhere to learn and be educated about wildlife and how these animals came to be here. Some of which brought me to tears. The compassion and care that is given to all the rescued animals from the workers and volunteers is next to none. Both and Boong were a dream to work alongside. Both is such a hard worker who is constantly smiling and nothing is ever too much for him, always willing to help and in several places at once! Pan, one of the mahouts has a little place in my heart after seeing him by the side of one of his elephants all night, alongside the onsite vet team while she was under the weather. Mike the tiger keeper holds an incredible amount of knowledge about tigers and the ones he cares for. So informative and passionate about what he does, not only for the tigers but how he cares for the other animals too. A real pleasure to talk to. When you book to volunteer here, everything runs so smoothly with Katie the volunteer coordinator. You can ask as many questions as you like and you’ll always get a response straight away. We also had the honour of meeting Edwin the founder who is always around checking in on his animals. Thank you to everyone who works here for all the love and care you show these animals. Until next time…Visited February 2025Traveled with friendsWritten February 25, 2025
- Vicki S33 contributionsWhat an absolutely amazing place to visit. We went as a family of 5 adults for a whole day tour and couldn’t fault anything. We chose this as it’s a rescue centre and their ethical approach. We booked direct with the centre on the phone which was very straightforward and paid on arrival. We were collected on time and taken straight there, included in the price. Our accommodation was not on their list of collection points but this didn’t matter, you just give them the address. The first thing on the day was a video which is a really hard watch but necessary to show what appalling situations these animals have been rescued from. Bring tissues! This was followed by a walk through the forest with explanations about the animals and their rescues. Lunch is provided and included in the price which was extremely good. The afternoon is a safari bus where you see elephants, tigers and more! It’s an absolute delight to see elephants roaming free in the grounds and just doing what elephants should, no chains, no sticks and no carrying people around. At the end of the tour we had buckets of water melon to feed to the elephants, they are so gentle. We come to the same area every year and this has been added to our annual trips! Just a totally amazing experience so please visit and support the fantastic work they are doing.Visited February 2025Traveled with familyWritten March 1, 2025
- Ryszard G2 contributionsWe have chosen this particular wildlife rescue sanctuary after online research to avoid visiting other ones that seemed to us still using animals to attract tourists and mistreating poor creatures for that purpose. We look at animals as sentient beings and wish they are treated accordingly. There are very few places with proper attitude towards animals and this is one of them. We spent a day tour there and really enjoyed our time watching lots of rescued animals (which suffered a lot in their lives and now are well looked after) and listening to our knowledgable guide Zeina (sorry if I misspelled the name but the girl was from Florida) who told us many interesting things and stories. Last but not least lunch was good with great vege options. Don't be shy and buy soma souvenirs from them It's for a noble cause. Thank you guys from WFFT. - Ole S12 contributionsWe had a great day there. They picked us with a comfortable shuttlebuss (they even provided a child seat) and when we arrived it was a one hour wait at the lodge restaurant before the guided tour startet. We hadde booked the full day and glad we did. The guides are great and it is a very educational day with regards to how some animals unfortunately are treated. Our kids (6yrs and 12yrs) loved it. There are som red ants out and about so I would recommend shoes, not flip flopps.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 28, 2024
- wildfirejcLydd, United Kingdom252 contributionsThis is a wonderful place to spend a few hours - learning about how these animals had been mistreated and how some individuals are trying to help them recover. The tour was well managed - we did a half day one (afternoon) because we are elderly and can't walk very far. Lunch was included - which was nice, sitting in the restaurant and watching the elephants coming by to scrounge for hand-outs. It does remind me of a zoo because the animals are kept in enclosures - however, most have freedom to run in the space allocated - and mostly the enclosures are protecting the humans...I wouldn't feel safe if a tiger was walking around freely, would you? Anyway, I now will no longer sit on an elephant or go on safaris on elephant backs. I prefer not to visit zoos either.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten January 26, 2025

Booking and the pick up from our hotel in Hau Hin was easy. Communication was very good and the minibus was air conditioned and small so not many other pick ups. It took nearly an hour's drive including 3 further swift pick ups.
We were greeted on arrival by some elephants, dogs and monkeys curious to see us and then our host Natalie made us very welcome at the restaurant area. We had lots of time to settle, use the toilet and free wifi, change clothes if we wanted and have a refreshing drink.
The first part of the tour is a walking tour. It was relaxed and Natalie was careful to keep us in the shady parts. Natalie provided lots of information about the animals and their histories and some of the terrible things people do to animals to prepare them and keep them for the tourist industry. We saw deer, monkeys, elephants, dogs, gibbons and more. At the end of this part of the tour, we stopped at a small gift shop selling t-shirts, water bottles and other bits.
Lunch was great with a good choice of tasty food. We could also buy drinks and ice cream.
The next part of the tour is on an open truck (with a roof for shade). We saw lots of animals and again Natalie provided lots of interesting information about them. She is clearly very passionate and caring and knew all the animals by name. The story about the gorilla from a school and the tigers rescued from Phuket zoo was particularly sad - i was glad to be wearing my sunglasses.
We went on a fairly cloudy day so we saw lots of active animals. The best bit for me was to be able to stand next to a tiger and to take it in turns to handfeed elephants some watermelon.
It was refreshing that the reserve puts the needs of the animals ahead of the gratification of tourists. It was worth the money because the tour fee goes towards looking after these beautiful creatures. I learnt lots. Thank you.

We had a brilliant visit which we booked prior to leaving England via the website. We were staying in Hua Hin and booked for the wfft to collect us from our hotel which was easy to arrange. The total cost of our full day visit was 3200 Thai bart( approx £80 sterling) great value as the visit included a buffet lunch( best chicken satay we have had in Thailand)
Our tour guid Natalie was very knowledgeable and very passionate about the work this foundation does and this shon through to her credit although she had only been doing the job for 6 months.
We would recommend this foundation for the full day visit but stress this is not a zoo some of the enclosures are so big with natural vegetation sometimes it was hard to even find the animals inside them which was a good thing to see.
Thank you for a very memorable day!

What a fabulous place this is, amazing people doing amazing work.
We were in Thailand for a family wedding and a large party of us, 13 in total, decided to visit here.
We booked the full day tour and were collected by two very comfortable mini busses from our hotel in Hua Hin and enjoyed the scenery on the journey to the foundation around an hour away.
The tour started at 10am with a walk around of the enclosures, our guide Edda was fantastic, so knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions anybody might have.
My two children are 6 and 8 and were completely absorbed, especially my 8 year old daughter who has decided she is going to come back and volunteer as soon as she's old enough.
Some of the stories were hard to hear and I know I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion but seeing all of these beautiful animals so well cared for now was a real privilege.
Lunch was lovely, plenty of choice and everything tasted very fresh.
The afternoon part of the tour was mainly conducted from the safari jeep which took us around the farthest areas of the foundation.
The day concluded with us being able to share some time with one of the foundation's beautiful elephants and feed to her pieces of watermelon and corn on the cob, an experience that neither myself or my children will forget.
This is an amazing place and one I would highly recommended visiting when you are in Thailand.
Value for money was absolutely excellent and even had it cost more I feel it would absolutely have been worth it.
If we are ever lucky enough to be in Thailand again we will certainly make a return visit.

The Wildlife Friends Foundation was recommended to us as one of the few ethical elephant sanctuaries in the area. My boyfriend and I booked the full day tour experience with a group of friends last week and couldn’t have been happier with our choice. The tour was a mix of riding open buses and walking short distances, so anyone able-bodied over the age of five should be able to participate without a problem.
The day started with transportation from our hotel in Hua Hin to the sanctuary itself. The driver arrived within the scheduled timeframe, so be ready near the lobby of wherever you’re staying to ensure a smooth pickup. Upon arrival we were split into groups and boarded buses for the morning portion of the tour. This consisted of several visits on foot to smaller elephant enclosures as well as a larger area with moon bears, otters, gibbons, macaques, and various other animals rescuers from zoos or abusive situations. The focus was education rather than entertainment, which felt appropriate given what many of these poor animals had experienced.
After a quick stop at the foundation’s gift shop, we were brought to the dining area for a delicious buffet-style lunch. We’ve had a numerous tour lunches over the years and both agree that this was the tastiest one ever! There were a variety of options for both vegans and meat eaters accompanied by fresh fruit and a small coffee bar with drinks available for purchase. (Filtered water was free.) After lunch we spent the afternoon largely on buses viewing more elephant enclosures at length as well as a new group of tigers rescued from the Phuket Zoo under tragic circumstances. We ended up getting to feed two of the more docile female elephants before heading back to the original meetup point for transport back to our hotel.
The tour was an approachable mix of education, funny animal antics, caring input from volunteers, and super tasty food. If you want to come to Thailand and support real change with regards to how humans and animals coexist, I can’t recommend Wildlife Friends Foundation enough. We will certainly come back next time we’re in the area. Thank you!

We spent the last days of our vacation at the Wildlife Friends Foundation and could not have chosen a better place! After visiting Rescue Paws during our stay at Hua Hin this is another true paradise for animals (because in Thailand you always need to check if a sanctuary is a real one!).
We stayed at the forest view lodge and woke up by the gibbons singing; truely amazing!! The first day we joined the daytour and were impressed by the size of this place as well as the number and variety of animals that live here. They all get the best care they can wish for, from the elephants to the birds.
This place is very unique with it’s own wildlife hospital. They continue to expand and are currently building a brand new enclosure to rescue several tigers from a former tiger breeding farm. At the end of the tour we could feed a few elephants watermelon, in an animal friendly way! The next day we relaxed at the swimming pool were the elephants wander around in front of you in a very big enclosure and you can watch the gibbons enjoy their island :-).
We’re very impressed by all the work we saw and recommend you to visit them as well!

We spent a day at WFFT in Thailand. It was really a wonderful experience, with a great guide. I advise all parents to go there instead to a zoo, it's the best way for children to meet animals. And knowning all the cruauty suffered by all the animals is heartbreaking.
Just one "bad" stuff: it's really a place for Western people. My wife for Indonesia was the only one non-Western from a group of 50 people. But it's not WFFT fault, it's juste "like that".

This is really important and amazing work, we are speechless of how this place organizes itself, it is nothing less than a 5 star residam e for rescued animals.
The area is huge and the conditions of the animal shelters and accommodation is amazing, it’s really well maintained and all the animals seem healthy and well recovered.
They are doing such important and amazing jobs for wildlife, we were really glad we could support them.
The visit is great we get to see so many happy animals, have a nice lunch and the to it guide was really sharing great information - we cannot recommend it enough.

We arranged the trip through their website with an easy form. Full day tour including trip from and to hotel in Hua Hin, Lunch (wich was quite good!) and the tour. 2 adults and 2 children price was 6200 baht (160€).
The tour was very informative and interesting. Our guide had much to tell about almost every individual animals history that we stopped to observe. Some facts were graphic and gruesome so we did not translate quite everything for the kids.
There is plenty of walking in the first part of the tour so bring good walking shoes and refillable water bottle. Tour ended with opportunity to feed watermelon to an elderly elephant; wich kids were especially delighted of. Other than that, we were asked to keep respectful distance from animals.
All In all they seem to be doing a great job on giving the animals new chance.

Behind every animal there is a story and can be sad to listen about them.
Many different animals, Elephants, monkeys, deers, tigers, otters, bears, birds etc
Our tour guild Will done a great job with his co-tour Edda.
Feeding the elephants was the high light of my trip. Our elephant was blind and will not return to the wild, she was a clever girl.
The dogs that followed us around on the truck were amazing they knew their way around the property and ended up meeting us at every corner lol 😂
Sausage was lovely
I would certainly recommend this trip well worth the price.
Thank you to all the staff 😀

The most AMAZING day worth every penny and more!
Efficient pick up and drive to the sanctuary ,we were then split into 3 groups which was a nice number and we had a wonderful guide called Edda who spent 3 weeks as a volunteer and then returned several years later as a full time worker. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the animals was obvious and her English was perfect!
Listening to the stories of each animal was heart breaking and heart warming in equal amounts - we had a performance by the most vocal gibbon, saw the 3 legged bear take a dip in his pool and were lucky enough to meet the man who started the sanctuary and hear from him about the latest rescue of a large number of tigers and leopards and see these beautiful creatures experiencing the sun and grass for the first time in what has been a wretched life.
I need to return and stay in one of the lodges so I can find out how things turn out for all the animals I have seen.
PS The lunch was tasty, generous and a good selection

It is not in Hua Hin but in Petchaburi. Google on wildlife foundation and you'll find direction there. About an hour from Hua Hin by car.

現在は、半日コースは有りませんか?

I was there two weeks ago and both the half and full day tours were available. Go to their website and book from there, if they have stopped the half day tours then it won't let you book. Or you can call them when you are in Thailand, no problem with Engish.

Hi, what is the best way to get to the sanctuary from Bangkok. We have already booked our stay and visit to the sanctuary and chose to get our own method of transportation. Looking for suggestions.
Many thanks 😊

I would absolutely book their transport option, it’s a good couple of hours from Bangkok and as far as I know there are no public transport out there, you could hire a car and drive yourself or take a taxi but for piece of mind, comfort and safety I would get WFFT to arrange the transport, it’s a private care so very comfortable.
Our driver even stopped for drinks and snacks on the way home to help avoid the Bangkok traffic.

Hi, how much is a general donation for the elles, and how much of that donation goes to them. Is there a chart that shows where the donations go?
Also, where do the visitors go during lunch break?
Thank you very much as we're looking to go there in September.

Not sure of how the money is distributed as it is all run by volunteers. Lunch is included and held where you first meet

What should I wear for the day tour? Are shorts and a tank top appropriate? Coming next week!!!
Written May 29, 2019
Shorts are fine , a t shirt or sleeveless T-shirt’ is fine, maybe a pair of comfortable shoes rather than flip flops. Also remember to bring your own drinks container and mosquito spray...have a great day I’m sure you will love it 😊

Hi! Can you bathe the elephants as well or is it just a watch and walk activity? Thanks!
Written May 4, 2019
Hello,
You can wash an elephant by showering it. For the bath, the elephants go there alone under the supervision of the staff and you observe them from a truck.
Cordially
