I am a big fan of the Discovery Islands, especially Quadra Island. Travel back in time to the laidback 60's and a simpler, less complicated time. The Island is beautiful surrounded by the ocean, wonderful mountainviews, with plentiful marine and wildlife viewing opportunities. There is a quaint charm on Quadra that is second to none with its' delightful shops, dining to suit all tastes and unique heritage pubs which offer live entertainment and open mike nights. The local people are warm, welcoming and great fun. There is a funky, cool vibe to Quadra with many local artists, musicians and artisans. During high season, make sure to take the local artists' studios tour, hike or bike the numerous trails, and don't miss breathtaking Rebecca Spit Provincial Park. There are many charters available from grizzly bear viewing to whale watching or world class fishing for the adventurous. Kayaking lessons are also available for those curious. This island is definitely worth the trip and only a short 10 minute ferry ride from Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Consider getting an "experience" card from BC Ferries to save approximately 40% off your fare to Quadra Island.

This Tour is an excellent opportunity to get out and enjoy a fun boat trip to an uninhabitited Island. It was exciting just to be out on the sea and Captain Tom stopped and allowed us the time to enjoy watching eagles, sea lions, a flock of feeding seagulls and even sample sea kelp. We were the only ones on Discovery Island that day so what a delight it was to trek up the well marked trail to the old Lighthouse. It was such a fun day enjoying nature and I will encourage others to take advantage of this well organized tour.

Quathiaski Cove is the main commercial hub of Quadra Island. There is a small supermarket, a bulk-foods store, an office supplies/photocopy store, various tourist gift stores, the public library, doctor's offices/medical clinics, bank, bookstore, ICBC office, new drugstore, art gallery, RCMP police station and a garden center. There are three restaurants which includes two coffee shops, and a gas station. This is where the ferry from Campbell River docks every hour as it completes its 12-minute run across from the small city of Campbell River on Vancouver Island. The ferry runs across the ocean passage every hour from 6.30am until 9.30pm, daily. From Quathiaski Cove it is a 12-minute drive over to Heriot Bay on the east side of Quadra, to where the ferry there goes to Cortes Island every few hours. In Heriot Bay is a Post Office, coffee shop/cafe, small supermarket/liquor store, and several gift stores. Quathiaski Cove is a friendly little town with plenty of good food and an easy attitude.

It's pretty, no argument there.
To have any length of time here starts to irritate when the childlike hippy clap trap comes to the fore.
Getting things organised and sorted becomes a huge deal. Where are the grown ups?
Living in the past and frowning upon anything remotely witty save hurting someones feelings also generates an artlessless and ignorance that grates.
A pretty but also pretty artless place.

Take a fishing trip out to the islands. You'll catch fish, see eagles and they will take any of your fish you care to throw back! Whales Orcars, Sea Lions, Sea Otters and Dolphins. You add to that an unspoiled and picturesque landscape and yo

Every time we come back we feel at home immediately. This is an island for quite reflective thinking, out door activities - hiking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, berry picking and the list goes on. For a population of approximately 2800 people they have built a new library, support both a new and used book store. The residence are friendly and very helpful. What I like most about this island is the way people treat each other and how fast they are willing to help a total stranger.
If we could move here we would.

I took a kayak expedition around the discovery islands and was not disappointed.
I saw tons of purple and pink ochre sea stars, some leather stars, anemones, urchins, nudibranches, sea squirts, crabs, seals, sea lions, eagles, white-sided dolphins and humpback whales. The islands are great to kayak around and have a few camping spots as well.
I managed to brave the cold waters and swim in the ocean as well.

Hop on the ferry at Campbell River, cross the Discovery Passage, dock at Quathiaski Cove and fall in love with the Discovery Islands; Quadra, Cortes and the many smaller
islands beyond. Go boating, kayaking, biking, hiking, fishing, whale and bear watching or just wander the beaches. There are great places to eat and fantastic accommodation available, just so much to see and do. What are you waiting for?

Peaceful lodge. Great getaway. Watching the fishing boats was relaxing.
All rooms face the ocean.
Friendly staff.
Little choice in where to dine. We ate there both nights. Overpriced.

You can't escape the fact that this is the Island community centre. Great shops, some really neat stuff by way of local, health and other foods. You can get practically all you supplies here for a stay on Quadra Island
