A great place for a picnic, or stroll/scoot around the pond & relax at one of the many benches. It’s tranquil & the views are stunning. The new construction includes paved paths around the pond. This makes it easy for those with mobility challenges who require a walker, scooter, wheel chair or mobility aids. Also many of the picnic sites are paved allowing easy access. Plenty of paved parking as well. Unfortunately at the time we were there, the Pit Toilets were dirty & messy. They seem to not be attended too regularly. The Province has done a Great Job in upgrading this area after the flood. A Fantastic Place Enjoy!

Beautiful clean pond, lovely walk around and lots of areas to have a nice picnic or meal. My daughter swims in the pond - it is very cold - but she loves it!

This little pond is a wonderful place to spend a whole day with family and friends. We were a group with several families with kids from babies to teens. We had lunch, tea and dinner at the site. And we all enjoyed it.
There's an easy hike around the pond (maybe a bit more than 1 km), and at different points you see completely different views that you can't guess it's the same location. And the colour of the water varies from place to place. A very good place to photograph even on a crowded day.
There are tons of picnic locations around it with tables and fire pits. You can find treed spots, grassy spots, gravel spots, spots near flowing water, spots with view, spots with privacy, spots closer to parking lot etc... Also the washrooms (pit toilets) are clean and in good condition.
We also had small inflatable boats in which we had fun floating about. There's also an exposed riverbed close by (I think it's exposed after the flood) which we explored. There're also tons of wildflowers and birds.
There are a lot of picnickers though, which can be a bit noisy. But there are spots that are more private thanks to trees. We visited in the fall of 2016 as well. It was beautiful with fall colours but a bit chilly. All in all a beautiful site to visit in all seasons a short distance from Calgary.

We had wanted to take a look at this normally gorgeous pond, but unfortunately it is totally closed as they are doing a lot of construction around it. Hopefully, they aren't going to ruin it...

Went to the Forget-me-not pond in Summer 2017 on a warm day. It was very pleasant location with clean, but smaller picnic spots. The scenery is absolutely stunning! We reached after 12 noon, and found the picnic spots to be already occupied, especially the larger roomier ones which were on a flat surface. We had portable grill so we were able to occupy the area on a slope by the pond, and we were able to enjoy with people of all ages in my group. You can take a stroll around the pond for a relaxing afternoon. Kids can splash around the pond (some areas are shallow, but water is cold!). Us adults enjoyed every bit of the peaceful atmosphere there.

I will not forget Forget Me Not Pond..together with my son and his family we all went for a late evening drive to this unforgettable picture perfect setting..we walked around the pond and i was in photographic ecstasy..the mountains with the evergreen trees, the blue green waters, wildflowers..it was heavenly..only regret is if we had gone earlier we could have stayed longer..I want to go back before I leave Canada..

This little body of water is so peaceful and the walk around the pond is easy and tranquil. I loved all the little ground squirrels peaking their heads up to say hello. The tributes on the benches to lost family members brings a bit of whimsy to your walk. Enjoy!

It is a beautiful place close to Calgary, perfect spot for relaxing, picknicing for families with/without kids. We were looking for a place where you can swim, but this lake is too cold. It is a beautiful mountain little lake, but definitely not for swimming.

We fell in love with this pond years ago when the kids were younger. It is a nice drive out in the mountains, not to far from Calgary and a great little spot to relax for the day or afternoon. We often took firewood, the hot dogs and marshmallows and had them over the fire. This year, our younger daughter turned 25 and all she wanted was to spend the day here for her birthday!
The pond is a beautiful green, cold water, and the area always looks so serene. Yes, in the summer it does get crowded with families looking for the picnic tables to hang out for the day. We still go out regularly, to walk around the pond or do some of the other close by trails. When the weather is nice and warm, it is the perfect place to spend time relaxing, taking in the beauty, reading, painting or taking pictures and having food by the camp fire!

We are just travellers. The access road, Highway 66, closed to vehicles at Elbow Falls on December 1 (to reopen May 15, 2021), and so to get there now, you would need to walk or cycle many kilometres to the pond. As a still pond, like most in the area, it would likely be frozen, but could be covered in snow if you could get there. But we are currently in a heat wave, with temperatures of +10° C, so it's also possible the ice might have started to melt.

Can we stay late there in the evening and do bbq till 10 ?? Is it safe to stay late
Written July 22, 2019
I'd suggest consulting with the advisors at any of the Visitor Information Centres (Barrier Lake, Peter Lougheed, Elbow Valley), either in person, or by phone. In campgrounds, people are out that late, and in those places, it is more a matter of noise etc. As a day use area, there may be a time limitation, so that's where the people at the Information Centres would help. As far as critters that late into the evening, not only would you need to be concerned about attracting them to the bbq place, but also to the car(s) in the parking lot when you pack up and leave, and the trail in between. Not to mention mosquitos... If you're not in the campground, then you also will have some sort of drive on the darker roads, which also a time when deer and other animals do move around, so extra caution would be needed when driving back...

We've seen people use all kinds of paddle craft on the pond - it is a mountain pond, and it's not huge. I don't know how swimmable it would be due to temperature of the water, especially at this time of year. It's not really set up as a beach, and we don't know if there are any shallow entry points for wading, etc. A call to the Elbow Valley Information Centre, or stopping by there on the way, might clear that up. Still, it's a great place to spend some time!

We're just travellers, but checked the web site, and fishing is allowed. That said, it's hard to tell if there would be fish in it, as the 2013 floods have changed a lot of things. Also, on a busy day, with lots of people on little boats, air mattresses, etc., perhaps even swimming, it might be a bit crowded for doing any fancy casting. A good idea would be to check in with any of the Alberta Parks info centres, and get their recommendations for fishing.

I live in Bragg Creek and occasionally see moose around here but Christine is right, we consider ourselves lucky when we encounter one. I have never seen a moose at Forget Me Not Pond and have not even seen one on our way out there. The Canadian Nature Photographer says this,
Moose in Kananaskis by Robert Berdan
Moose are common in Kananaskis along highway 93 along swamps, marshes and licks near Upper Lakes. They also frequent the meadows along Spray lakes road and are especially abundant near Engadine lodge. Best time to see them is early in the morning. In general I encounter moose in Kananaskis in about 50% of my trips to the park.
So Kristin, if you want to see moose, it sounds like Kananaskis is a better bet for you. A bit further but you are more likely to be successful in your moose spotting! Good luck.
