Times have changed. The park is overrun with campers who have zero respect for the environment and care only about partying. Staff (Wardens) ignore glaring violations and are few and far between when needed. Washroom facilities were dirty and often out of order at many locations. Many campsite were left strewn with garbage and relied on the next user to clean up the mess. Staff at one gate house simply shrugged their shoulders and said if we chose not to return someone else would take the site anyway. The standards seem to really fallen. Dirty sites. Minimal maintenance. Out of order washrooms. Broken picnic tables. Partially working hydro boxes on a site we paid for hydro on.
All in all not the park it once was.

Very disappointed again on our camping weekend. Last time we went to Mew Lake and lost power for over a day and this time we went to Cannibay Lake and lost power again !! They really need to keep ontop of that. It was freezing and without power our bower motor on our camper would y blow the furnace. Also the flush toilets wouldn’t work as well and by the morning they were disgusting. Our last camping trip was a horrible one. Won’t be back !!

A truly magical place.
Gorgeous, perfect for getting away from it all, and much more accesible for young kids than we had expected.

Come on, who doesn't like Algonquin Park - will always be one of my favorites. Lots of different level hikes for groups with mixed age groups/limitations. My fave is the Misty trail.

Stayed at Mew Lake dog and radio free camp ground. Sites are large and mostly private. Go during the week to avoid crowds. Reservations are also recommended to ensure you get the site you want.

This massive Park 3 hours due North from Toronto is worth every second of it! Dotted with various campgrounds, cabins and small motels, it offers something for everyone's budget. We stayed at Pog Lake Campground and the central facilities (showers, restrooms, Laundromat, etc.) were always kept in impeccable order.
There are 6 or 7 different ponds and lakes where regular sightings range from foxes and beavers to moose and bears. Our favorite (and longest trail) was around Mew Lake where most of the moose sightings are recorded each year.
While we certainly didn't look for the bears, we found ample official notices to lock up every single food item or anything with a scent as to not attract the bears to our campground. Campers on the neighboring lot from ours had indeed seen them 3 days before our arrival.
We rented canoes which we used right on the lake a few feet off our campsite and everyone had a blast. The canoes are promptly delivered to your campsite and picked up on your departure date.
All in all, the Park is a most wonderful way to connect with Nature at all levels and in what seems to be a wonderfully respected site by the human visitors. After all... aren't we the intruders?
We are already planning our next visit, which will certainly be for far more than just 4 days!
PLEASE NOTE: You must obtain a Camping Permit (which also acts as your License to visit the Park). It can be processed along with campground reservations online.

Algonquin is our favourite place for camping. The grounds are untouched while basic amenities are provided at great quality. spring is especially beautiful there

I travel the US and Canada every summer photographing landscapes and nature. I saw some nice photos online of this park and figured I would photograph it myself. It’s a huge park and I was into canoeing or swimming in the lake, it would be great but for photography, there was nothing exciting to see. There was a huge lake, but with no mountains behind it to give it some depth, it could be any park anywhere in the world. Other people were loving it as it was crowded but it just wasn’t the kind of park to go out of my way to photograph.

We drove out of our way along nice back roads from Haliburton to do this hike. It was about a mile in and then you get to a narrow river running down through stages of rapids. Some nice spots to sit on the rocks and take it al in or just relax. Opportunity to swim.
