Last summer we made a visit to Guilin and I have to say. Most of Guilin I can do without. Lots of the tourist area is not well managed, very backwards, waiting in lines for hours. You can tell the government has not invested in this area as much as other tourist parts of China. This place we recommended actually by a taxi driver. We had 3 kids in tow ages 10,8,and 3. How to describe this place? This isn't a place to come see Guilin but to see one of it's beautiful waterfall parks. It's a bit of a drive out and it's definitely an all day trip. The park is set up so you start and end up in the same place. You walk in and everybody changes into straw shoes, gets a helmet and options to store your valuables. The straw shoes are not great, but is for hiking up and through waterfalls so that your regular shoes don't get soaked. You will get soaked. You have the option of carrying your regular shoes because there is a bit of a hike in some parts without water. I opted to go without carrying my shoes and it worked out fine. There's about 4 or 5 waterfalls to hike through. Some are harder where you have to grab a chain and hold on as you hike up. Some are easier. There's a bit of a break between each waterfall. The first one was the hardest and me and my husband took turns giving it a try. It really wasn't that hard if you've done any indoor wall climb. And there are always alternative routes and options to walk back down. Which is what we did to get our kids who played in the pools. Once at the top there are bathroom options and some simple food stands. There's a rickety wooden bridge at one point, so if you are afraid of heights, this may not be for you. On the way down, there are several options to hike down, or glide down and then hike down some more or take a roller coaster down. This was an incredibly tiring, but wholesome fun all day adventure for my family. And my 3 year old did it and loved it! I highly recommend going. If you have kids younger than 3, I would consider passing unless you are ready to carry. Oh! and on the way in and out you pass through these fruit stands, their local mango was amazing.

Located in the up-country of Guilin. There are many waterfalls but all of them are small. When reach the peak you can cross the bridge and enjoy the view. Also, if you dont want to walk down , you can take the slide car, very fun. PS. I come here at the end of November 2018, the maple still not turn to red.

Excellent place to visit
Jul 2016 • Friends
Went here in peak season. It was jammed packed but climbing the waterfalls was worth it.. Very clean water.

6/10 ability needed to climb the falls.

You will get wet on the first climb (which is the hardest) but on a hot humid day was a nice relief from the weather.. Getting there can be tricky.. You can take a small mini bus from the back of the main bus terminal.. Will cost u 25rmb to get there one way.. The old town is before the waterfall and is worth a visit before hand.. A local bus can be taken to the falls if u choose to get off at the old town first.

A Resort Full of literature and Art

Located about 40min-drive away from Guilin downtown,Godong Waterfall is a main scenic spot there. Not only famouse for its multiple waterfalls coming out from underground spring, but also its environment-friendly oriented culture.
Also, there're much local culture, like Guilin dialect translated into mandarin carved in every downhill stonestair.Every visitor will imitate the pronunciation and laugh because they quickly speak another interesting language.
What's more, this is one of the favourite place for students' outing. So u can often see some lovely & vivid icon during visiting.

Absolutely Fantastic If you Like Well Preserved Waterfalls
Dec 2012 • Family
We took a 1/2 day tour of this "ecology park". It was very well done by Chinese standards and was delightful, even in the middle of winter (although nobody swam in the tempting waterfall pools). This is one of the few places with 10 meter waterfalls that I have visited in a variety of countries (Hawaii, Malaysia, Japan) where you can actually take a swim under the waterfall and climb up it. Not just one waterfall, but 5 beautiful falls that would be the envy of any Hawaiian Island.

The local government has made good efforts at making the park educational for Chinese visitors as to the need to preserve what nature has provided including a very touching list of "extinct species since 1950" each marked with a cross as if a grave. There are a lot of other nice touches including some Taoist shrines and there is a long span hanging bridge that is perfect for memorable pictures (and just a little bit scary for the kids).

There are two "rides" after your get to the top of the waterfalls that make the return journey a lot of fun. One involves strapping on a harness and sliding across a 30 meter valley on a suspended wire for about 300 meters. Really fun!

The other rise is a "luge" type ride where you return to the bottom of the park on two rails. Not terribly ecologically sensitive but great fun. Neither type of ride would ever be experienced is a US theme park given liability concerns. Enjoy at your risk!

Fun Adventure
Jul 2011
It was really exciting to climb up the waterfall, and it's not just one waterfall. It's a whole series of waterfalls. Also, even though it's exciting, it's very safe. They have special grass shoes and safety helmets as well as a chain to hold on to. I highly recommend it especially in the hot summer months.

Li River Gudong Scenic Area
We were in Guilin and weather was cloudy. This place was on in our itinerary but somehow we were not too far from it and decided to visit. After all, there was no sunlight to enable us to take good photos of the karst hills. Li River Gudong Scenic Area was a failure in my opinion. It was a complete waste of money. No value at all.
Nothing but like a small settlement-turned-park. The ticket costed RMB60 per person. There was a waterfall, a forest and streams.
We were very disappointed.
