i enjoyed my trip to see the Amar Mahal Museum. The building itself is beautiful and the objects in the museum- wonderful Pahari and Kangra miniature paintings, Golden throne and rare books makes this a place for all interested in art to visit.

Wonderfully located, overseeing the Tawi river and the city of Jammu. It has a good collection of photos and paintings. Being there in late afternoon-evening time is pleasant. They have a good hall where a short documentary film on history of Jammu-Kashmir, esp. around independence days can be shown. I am not much into gold, so golden throne was not an attraction for me.

The place of historical importance, the seat of erstwhile rulers of J&K. Nothing much to see actually as most of the area is closed for public, except photographs no artefacts to see.

Still I say that place to be once your in Jammu

I visited Amar Mahal during a business trip in Jammu. From distance, it looks very royal. The home of the royal family of J&K, it hosts a collection of historical photographs and artifacts inside the museum. The view of the river Tawi from the lawn of the museum is fascinating. One must visit this while in Jammu.

A slight drive from the city centre, the views are magnificent from the museum. There is a lot of art displayed along with miniatures, a golden throne and plenty of rare books. The building itself is majestic made of red sandstone.

Great view of Jammu city
Apr 2013 • Family
Visited this place while driving back from Katra to Jammu. Spend around an hour, it is the palace of Maharaja' s of Jammu and Kashmir that is now converted into a museum and another part of it 50m away is now a hotel. It has a very good architecture made of stones. The maharaja is very closely connected to Arubindo Ashram of Pondycherry and there are several photo and collection of the same in museum. The museum has photographs, paintings done by family of maharaja and some items. Nothing great but one can admire the beauty of architecture and style of living of a maharaja. The palace is located on a top of a maountain and overlooks Tawi river and Jammu city. One can go all around it and the beauty from back of it is wonderful. Excellent place for photograhers and architects. General people may not appreciate much except for the view from lawns at the back of the Amar Mahal. There is a entry fee of Rs30/- per person and charges for camera and video camera separately. To enjoy the view it should be sunny and preferable time around 2 to 4PM.
