La TORRE di PORTA SOPRANA è situata a levante nella parte alta. E' stata costruita nel XIII secolo a difesa e protezione dell'antico borgo. E' una struttura maestosa, alta 24 metri e si vede da lontano. Nel XIX secolo ha subito alcuni interventi per ospitare la campana dell'orologio. Da PORTA SOPRANA, detta anche TORRE dell'OROLOGIO, si esce dall'antico borgo e si accede alle contrade dei portici.

Siamo ritornati a Varzi per la Fiera del 1 Maggio. Passeggiando per il bellissimo centro storico siamo passati ovviamente sotto la Torre di Porta Soprana che domina le stradine del borgo con angoli suggestivi, banchetti con prodotti locali ( il famoso salame di Varzi, formaggi, funghi, vino…) e oggetti di artigianato. Fiera con tanti animali: cavalli, buoi, capre, conigli, galline ...e molti buoni ristoranti !

La Torre medioevale di Porta Soprana caratterizza il centro storico di Varzi ed è un punto di passaggio nella festa imperdibile del 1 Maggio. Passeggio nelle stradine del borgo con molti banchetti ricchi di prodotti locali ( alimentari ed artigianato ), angoli suggestivi, buon salame, imbarazzo nella scelta del ristorante. Una fiera con tanti animali: cavalli buoi, capre, conigli, tacchini, galline ...

Built in medieval times, it was one of the two gateways to the town: it is still located along the main street of the old town, but is practically set among the civil buildings.
The tower is quite massive, has a square plan, is about 24 m high and is built with exposed stones of grayish color.
At the base there is a pedestrian and driveway underpass with two arched entrances, very characteristic.
On the inner side only a small loophole and a clock, while in the upper part is included a sort of bell shrine.
Too bad it is not accessible. I assume you would enjoy a pleasant view

Camminando tra i banchetti nelle affollate piccole vie del borgo storico nel giorno della Fiera del 1 Maggio, arriviamo alla Torre di Porta Soprana, monumento che domina Varzi. Merita qualche fotografia !

Bel paese dell’Oltrpò Pavese. Borgo con mura medioevali e torri, interessante da visitare passeggiando nelle strette strade. Case ben ristrutturate, negozi con prodotti locali tipici e buoni ristoranti.

l centro storico di Varzi è uno dei più antichi d'Italia, ed è veramente stupendo.
Visitare il centro storico medievale di Varzi è come fare un viaggio nel passato, dove in ogni angolo trapelano testimonianze architettoniche di chiese, torri e del suoi portici dalla conformazione particolari. L’abitato si sviluppa su tre livelli di portici, ancora oggi visibili. Varzi è anche il punto di partenza per la Via del Sale: l’itinerario che nel Medioevo era usato da mercanti e contadini per trasportare su queste mulattiere le loro merci in Liguria e viceversa.
Ci sono poi molti locali, pizzerie, gelaterie, caffè.
Se vi trovate in zona, vi consiglio vivamente una passeggiata tra i suoi vicoli.

La torre di porta sottana e con la torre di porta soprana e che con le mura di cinta erano difesa e protezione del borgo abitato quando venne costituito il Marchesato di Varzi nel 1275. La costruzione in pietra locale venne eretta nel XII secolo, è tuttora molto ben conservata ed è di proprietà della famiglia Mazza Galanti.

La torre di Porta Soprana è stata costruita nel XIII secolo ed è alta 24 metri. Struttura imponente che domina un meraviglioso borgo medioevale di vicoli e strette viuzze dove il tempo sembra essersi fermato. Per qualsiasi motivo ci si rechi a Varzi sicuramente va fatta una visita al centro storico e alla sua torre.
