About
Those expecting to merely see old houses in the Open Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof are in for a surprise: you will find domestic animals of old breeds in the stalls, goats and sheep grazing in the meadows, and the black kitchens still smell of the last fire’s smoke. A comprehensive and carefully planned programme with daily activities provides for an eventful visit to the museum throughout the entire season.
During the season, numerous craftsmen and –women present their traditional crafts on the grounds of the museum. The programme alternates daily so you will get to see at least one of following: the brush-maker, the spinner, the weaver, the wood-carver, the straw-shoemaker and many more.

We stopped here as a stop on a river cruise - I didn't expect too much, but was pleasantly surprised. Even though English isn't widely spoken there, there are signs that explain everything and were very informative. I would recommend this stop for anyone - signage is in several different languages. If I get back to that area, I will return.

Our host recommended the open air museum to us and we were so glad she did.
We decided to drive from Gengenbach which took around 45 minutes. There was plenty of parking and you just follow the signs and foot steps over the bridge then under a tunnel to find the entrance.
There are around 16 buildings around the museum all set up to demonstrate how people lived in the past. We appreciated that the information boards also included English so we could read about the houses. There were also people doing demonstrations around the park and farm animals.
There is a restaurant on sight and 2 smaller cafes. We sat at the one by the playground so our daughter could have a play and had sausages & a cream based pizza - all delicious.
Highly recommend the museum for families with kids or adults without. There is something for everyone.

Excellent visit that will delight young and old. Very nice tour de force to have moved all these magnificent houses!
The adults will learn a lot about the history of this beautiful region, the little ones will be delighted by the farm animals and the games.
Excellent Quality/Award Ratio, for both the starter and the drink. The icing on the cake, almost all the panels are translated into impeccable French.

Here you can gain great insights into the arduous farming and artisan life of our ancestors from the Black Forest in the last century. The way of life in its most diverse aspects is presented in a very vivid way. It was very worthwhile taking part in the free public tour (always at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.). Here the real life stories are told, which would otherwise never be revealed by just looking at the houses - great. Take your time! 4 hours are just enough.

A parc in the countryside filled with authentic farms and houses from different decades and areas of the Schwarzwald. It gives you a realistic impression how life was several ages ago. A well maintained parc including animimals, fruit trees and flowers to complete the "Erlebnis". Astonishing to see how dark these old houses are inside...

Beautiful and peaceful place, very well maintained. We had a great time there while waiting for the young girls in the hats with the red pompoms to arrive. Excellent cakes in the cafeteria. Note that all buildings have explanations in 4 languages including French. I highly recommend this charming museum with its impressive framed houses!

A great day trip to Gutach. After the neighboring toboggan run, a visit to the open-air museum. It sounds dusty at first, but the opposite is the case. Lots of informative and interactive opportunities to learn about the culture and history shaped by crafts and agriculture. Something for everyone. A successful concept with a good price/performance ratio.

Must visit if you spend some time in the black forest with your family. I was disappointed first as saw no English translation, but it is available on every description board as all of them is foldable! Haha, my bad! We really enjoyed to go back time and visit these amazing houses. We spent 4 hours there. Parking is 4EUR for all day which is great!

Very beautiful village. The houses are perfectly rebuilt and furnished.
Animals present a plus.
Too bad there are signs in German, English, French and Spanish.
It's definitely worth spending a few hours there.
I advise the managers to also include signs in Italian given the many Italian tourists!

This hands-on collection of real houses, lived in and worked in, shows how people lived, what skills they practiced, how the land and weather shaped their lives, how they made their farmhauses both practical and attractive. I have been many times, with visitors from the US while we lived in Germany, and they never failed to be fascinated, from 5 year olds to 85 years old. The single most informative item in the Black Forest.

Hola:

Last year when I was there, there was a small place just outside the museum that sold the best black forest cake I have ever had.
Does anybody know the opening hours, and are the open mid-late November?

There is no reduction on the entrance fee with the KONUS card. The entrance for adults is 9 euros, we also have family prices that depend on the number of children you have. All the prices you can find on our homepage (also in english available) among "all you need to know".

Quiero saber el precio de la entrada. Muchas gracias. Saludos. Wie viel kostet' Danke!!
Written August 24, 2017
Hola!
Saludos :)
