- Mike WMountain View, California405 contributionsPetroglyphs and Nuxalk history.Today my wife, dog and I were guided through one of the sacred areas of the Nuxhalk. We started with the history and trauma of the tribe and their mythology. We then visited the sites of the petroglyphs and learned many of be stories behind them. This was all in the beautiful forested surroundings with a creek babbling in the background. Our guide, Nuhawhawta, was extremely knowledgeable and shared his passion in both word and song.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 16, 2024
- Michael Laursen1 contributionA great tour and learning experienceI went on the guided tour to the petroglyphs. My guide was Zack. It was an amazing morning, Zack explained the different stone carvings and what every detail meant in the history and culture of the Nuxalk people. And linking it all from thousands of years back up to current time. Extremely enlightening and fascinating !! I can highly recommend it !!Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 10, 2024
- Sunnie D1 contributionA Nuxalk cultural experienceI booked three experiences with Copper Sun: the petroglyphs, totem tour and a 2 hour raft and I could not recommend them enough! Every guide and staff member I met was extremely kind and knowledgeable. I feel so grateful to have been welcomed and shown around Nuxalk territory by members of the community that have stewarded the land since time immemorial. Thank you wholeheartedly for sharing your smayusta with me 🧡 This visit to Bella Coola would not have been the same without the wonderful people at Copper Sun. I recommend everyone to book a tour with them and buy some art from the gallery. I cannot wait to come back and visit this beautiful Nuxalk territory!Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 14, 2024
- Leech11Prince George, Canada7 contributionsA Fabulous ExperienceThis tour was outstanding. Stunning walk to the ancient petroglyphs which are thousands of years old. Our guide, Zach, had fascinating interpretations of the many petroglyphs. My wife, Chris, and I greatly enjoyed the beauty of the area, the incredibly wild creek a hundred feet below us and the creative heart work from so long ago. We highly recommend this experience.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 7, 2024

We went on the petroglyph tour, it was really wonderful. The guides are friendly, know their stuff, and explain it well! Seeing these ancient carvings in such beautiful forest is something I'll never forget. If you're passing by Bella Coola, it would be a real shame not to do this tour!

we did a tour with a guide along ancient rock carvings with our teen daughter and my wife. the story of the site and the information about the history of the indigenous people in the Bella Coola Valley added so much to our trip and is absolutely something that should not be missed when you are in the area. the site itself is as impressive as famous ancient sites in Europe.

This was a highlight of our trip to the Bella Coola valley. The petroglyphs are so special. Our guide Zack was incredibly knowledgeable, and extremely talented in communicating the history, stories, and significance of the location. Thank you so much.

I can't say anything but amazing things about my 2hr petroglyph tour with our guide via Copper Sun Gallery & Journeys. He was genuine and approachable and his information about the petroglyphs and the Nuxalk people were so insightful. It was also a real privilege and an honour to be taken to such sacred places such as this.
Absolutely worth your money and more. So glad to support local indigenous tourism and can't wait to come back and do their totem and big cedar tours

It was a wonderful informative experience with our tour guide Mink. We were privileged to visit this sacred site and learn about the culture and history of the Nuxalk people. Recommended without reservation. Go - you will learn so much and leave with any preconceptions about indigenous life altered forever.

Chris and Copper Sun provided the perfect education and tour of the Petroglyphs and Totem Carving when we visited Bella Coola this winter. Chris is an amazing storyteller and really helps you understand the history of the land and his people. I would recommend this tour to anyone that is curious to learn more about the area and the history and culture of the Nuxalk Nation. First rate.
