We had a chance to explore the Fort Nelson Heritage Museum. We were told that this was one of the best museums in Alberta - we totally agree!! It is a historical museum run by a gentle old soul who has put his life and love into building it up over the years!! It is a definite must for anyone... More

Some say clutter, I say you simply need to spend the time to find the treasures. I loved visiting this little museum and getting to learn about the Alaska Highway and chat with locals about the area's history. Trying out the bannock was also a yummy highlight!

I am not sure if I have ever seen such a vast collection of museum items. You could literally spend an entire day here. Lots of fun for those who love museums

Thew Fort Nelson Museum is a fantastic place to learn about the lifestyle in the community and the building of the Alaska Highway. Tons of displays indoors and out that tell the story of the lives of the many who lived, worked and loved the town. Very easy to ell that the curator, Marl Brown, loves what he does. If... More

We happened to stay at the RV park next to this place and the owners recommended we pay the museum a visit. Are we glad we did! The grounds are covered with the most fascinating collection of... well, stuff! Amazing collection of cars in the large building, some more out back in the car/truck graveyard, homes and church that were... More

You could spend a week here and not see everything. They offer tour guides upon request. You can ask to see a 40 minute video on the building of the Al-Can. I would suggest seeing it. I would call this a must see.

Locally run museum, with a lot of things from the history of the Alaska Highway. The antique cars were of great interest to me, and they ALL run! Talk to the gentleman who owns them and takes care of them, he is a well of information about the area and the history. Some of the buildings were not open, and... More

This museum has lots of great things to show off but it is a bit messy and very cluttered. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of explanations attached to the displays. The old cars are amazing but they need a better display area for such a precious collection.

This museum certainly shows the story of Fort Nelson and the Alaskan Highway. It's worth a visit while here. It's definitely worth talking to Marl out in the garage! He came as a worker on the highway back in the 50's and became part of the history. The museum could use an overhaul and some continuity for the story they... More

When we got there it was just about to close... but there were still so many things to see outside. We spent an enthralling hour just looking at vintage gear from vehicles to tools and all manner of amazing things...
