Plan your trip and know there is limited parking. Narrow streets can be busy in tourist season. Quaint shops, colorful architecture and a museum of Atlantic fisheries combine for a worthwhile visit. Restaurants and inns are available for those who wish to stay downtown. Cruises on the waterfront offer unique views of the shoreline. This is an area of Nova Scotia that should not be missed.

We walked around Lunenburg and also took a horse and carriage tour that was fantastic! What a gem this town is! The architecture is amazing and you are transported back to the 1700s as you are seeing it just as it was. Give yourself time to see the buildings, check out the museums and visit the art galleries. It is all well worth the time and visit.

Forget this place and go somewhere else, like Peggys Cove. We were in much anticipation to visit Lunenburg and what a waste of time --- I had to drive around for 45 minutes trying to park and not a chance did I get. The small car park near the 'port' was full and one had to wait for a space to become vacant, but what a queue there was. On stret parking was just as bad an there was no space AT ALL vacant even when we drove around.
Gave it up as a bad choice and doubled back to Peggyus Cove instead. Much better

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lunenburg is stunning! We did an 1 hour walking tour with local guide, Alison. She pointed out several houses of historic significance to us. Lunenburg is a 8 by 6 blocks town which is very walkable. The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is located beside the harbour. There are several restaurants serving very good lobsters, scallops, clams etc along the waterfront.

We drove from Halifax in the morning to see the place. We found the scenery along the costal drive more interesting than the town itself. I guess our expectations were high since weβve been recommended highly by friends. If you have little time one can squeeze the drive to 3.5 hours, we used 4 hours to get back to Halifax.

Beautiful snap shot of days gone by. Great little town with quite the foody business going on and lots for history buffs to soak. Harbour gets quite busy by mid day with tourists and local fishing businesses and recreational boating.

First time visit to Lunenburg while on a Tauck tour. I am not sure which company did the walking tour but we started at theLunenburg Academy and her name was Allison. During our one hour walk down to the wharf we learned about the history of Lunenburg and the houses. It's the kind of town we would go back to if in the area again. We had lunch near the docks and walked the wharf after the tour. Well kept up area and very clean. Kudos to the residents who made our visit enjoyable.

I love this town! Itβs so authentic with a lot of history. The whole town is considered heritage and therefore protected. Itβs also really colourful. You do need to go down a hill to get to the boardwalk, so itβs something to keep in mind for the walk back up.

Today I walked around Lunenburg area. Such a nice town and quiet location. Lots of beautiful buildings around and waterfront walk.
I highly recommend anyone stopping by this area for a walk. Lots of shops to visit!

Planning a trip in later October 2019 and Sunday seems to be the best day for our schedule. Will Lunenburg sights/tourist businesses be open on Sunday in that time frame?
Written March 24, 2019
Lunenburg is a great place but closes up early in the evening and especially in the fall. It is best to plan an early day trip to this area at that time of year. Sunday may also not be your best day. As things may open latter and close early.

Good afternoon, can you please advise is there historic walking tours when there in Lunenburg? I have seen one listed but bus tour out of Halifax and we are already in area? Please advise thanks.
Written July 19, 2018
Yes there are, but Lunenburg's not that big - just walk round the central area yourself and enjoy.
