We stopped the visitor centre in Fernie to get some maps and hiking information. The staff were friendly, and they even had souvineers. The building is modern and clean, and there are a few animal pelts (bear, wolf, cougar, etc.) to look at. The parking lot is the same one for the waterfall trail too (Fairy Creek Falls).

Stopped here as we were passing through Fernie in July.
It’s very bright and modern inside with a great selection of leaflets. There are several small souvenirs available to purchase.
Clean washrooms are also available.
There is plenty of parking and a few picnic tables.

This is a great place to start your journey around Fernie and the Elk Valley. They have lot's of information available on local hospitality and attractions. Knowledgable, friendly staff.

They also have a sewage dump for your RV or trailer.

The young woman helped us with maps for more advanced hikes that we had not done around Fernie. She also suggested other events and the weekly Sunday market.

Located just outside Fernie, just off Hwy 3 and next to the large wooden oil derrick. Ample parking available.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Inside they have lots of information on the local area and maps. Outside they have lawns around the derrick with picnic tables.

Fun spot , clean bathrooms , ok merchandise .... but as a tourist that comes from out of town , often out of province and country I think it would be cool to see some souvenirs to take home with that historical wooden rig that is display outside ! It’s a fun part of history , but there was no postcard to buy with it , or souvenir ink stamp to stamp in our stamp passport .
Nice selection of books , but tourist often don’t have space to take books , and postcards were beautiful but not really touristy snowing your pretty little town .
It’s good but it could be better .

Oil derrick out front drew us in. Trail maps, area brochures and clean bathrooms were all necessities.

Don’t know why all the positive reviews. We arrived expecting an amazing welcoming center only to find a “blah”array of 3 stuffed animals, a bunch of advertisements about some spa or something and two employees who were new to town and knew nothing. I explained that we liked history and museums and she said to go check out the library. Really?? so libraries where you find local history? wow! i never knew. I’m embarrassed for the town of fernie. Just seems like a ordinary ski town, nothing to see here. We even went to the museum. It’s as if a corporate giant came in. Got huge tax benefits and promised something culturally and revamped an old building (400 square feet) and added a bunch of boring stuff about mining. What a waste of time and money! Just drive through the town, nothing to see or learn about here.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback. The Fernie Information Center offers an extensive range of information of activities to enjoy while in Fernie. From breathtaking hiking and biking trails, to waterfalls, rafting, golf, distillers, restaurants, aerial park, arts station, markets, concerts, kids’ camps, tours and much more. Our Fernie Museum, and the building itself, an important example of Fernie's rich history, boasts a main floor exhibit with a large emphasis on mining as it is very important to Fernie’s history, as well as ever-changing exhibition gallery on the 2nd floor.
