The Canadian Children's museum is an attraction really conceived for children. Everything is at their reach and it is really fun to play with them as they discover the different worlds over there. The whole experience is organized as a voyage and the kids are invited to stamp their passport at each port or custom. There are many activities that are interactive where the kids may manipulate things. They can disguise and play another character, but what is fun is that it does invite a lot for parents to play as well. Colourful, even young kids will enjoy.

My husband and I took our two grandchildren (ages 9 and 6 years). The museum was fabulous. All the activities were interactive. The displays were well-laid out and fun. The idea of acquiring stamps at each display was very popular. This is the best Children’s museum that I have been at.

I absolutely adore the Canadian Children's Museum. I have visited it over and over again throughout my life. I have the fondest memories of exploring it, both as a child and adult. Everything is so colourful, interactive and exciting. I'm almost 30 years old- and I turn into a kid again every time I walk through those doors, and get to stamp my passport. The old Canada Hall used to be one of my favourite places in Ottawa to visit as well. I used to rant and rave to anyone visiting Ottawa to go experience it. I was looking forward to seeing the new renovated Hall. I was hoping they would keep the interactive design that mirrored the Children's Museum. I was absolutely heart-broken to see that the new Hall kept none of the old magic. My passion for the museum has faded, and I'm desperately hoping that the upcoming renovations to the Children's Museum don't mimick the destruction. I'd hate to see the magic disappear from there as well.

The Children's Museum is part of the Canadian Museum of History. This national museum is located in Gatineau, across the river from Parliament Hill. There is parking ($$). Little kids will adore this place where they can run and touch everything. My grandson loved driving the bus while his sister spent an hour going up and down a ramp. (Children around 9 or 10 years old may be less enchanted by the experience: go the the Museum of Nature instead with them.) After your visit, there's a medium priced cafeteria style restaurant where you will find something to please most little ones. If you go when the weather is nice, plan some time to explore around the museum in the back of the site, the view from the river bank is exceptional, and the grounds are lovely. In the summer, a little known ferry crosses the river from Ottawa at that point. It leaves from the bottom of the locks on the Ottawa side.

The children’s museum is by far the most exciting place for families when in Gatineau. My toddler could not stop smiling and running from one spot to the next. We had not planned on visiting but when the weather turned lousy we headed in. It was the best afternoon in Ottawa we could have asked for. We couldn’t see all parts of the museum but certainly the kids zone and 3D movie was a hit. Highly recommended.
