Myself and two girlfriends decided to visit the tranquil location of Sooke for a few days in March. When we arrived, we debated over whether to do our usual activity, the spa, or try something a bit different. On doing a bit of research of things to do in Sooke, I came across Captain Pat's glowing reviews, and was able to convince the other two girls to try something new, a half-day of salmon fishing. While there was a bit of hesitation as: 1) none of us had fished before, 2) we didn't particularly want to wake up early on vacation, and 3) we weren't really sure what sitting on a small boat for four hours with a stranger would look like...we decided to take a chance and book, and boy, were we happy that we did! Captain Pat was exactly what we were looking for. From the moment I called him to book our appointment he was incredibly kind and helpful. We arrived at the dock at 7:30 a.m., equipped with our Hunter rubber boots and Starbucks in hand. For the next 5 hours, we had the perfect West Coast experience.
My main concern was that we would not catch any fish and be incredibly bored and cold on the boat. My concern was quickly pacified as within 30mins of being out on the water, we hooked our first salmon. Captain Pat was incredibly patient as he taught us how to handle the rod and reel in the fish. He even kept his eye-rolling at a minimum when we hid our eyes and refused to watch the "head bonking" of the fish we pulled in. For the next 5 hours we were constantly reeling in fish - at one point all 3 of us were on our own rods, as Capitan Pat calmly and simultaneously assisted all of us.
In addition to the fishing, simply being on the water was beautiful and calming. Captain Pat shared with us his past fishing stories, his knowledge on local fishing, orcas, politics etc., to even the best way to season and fry up our catch. On our trip, in addition to fishing we saw numerous porpoises, bald eagles, jellyfish, crab, seals, and even a nuclear submarine! Needless to say, we were not bored.
Overall, we had a blast and would definitely recommend Captain Pat to anyone who wants to try fishing. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait to go again!

My first father/son fishing adventure on a boat, and we had a amazing time! Pat has a great attitude and is a knowledgeable fisherman, a helpful guide willing to teach and share information, and really good with kids. We had a good catch, which was a bonus to a generally great time on the water. I highly recommend Pat and Bluefin Fishing Adventures to anyone looking for a unique fishing experience.

This guy knows how to put fish in the boat! I've taken three trips with him now, and he's never let us down. Pat is the man, and this is the boat you want to be in if you want to catch fish.
We walked away with just over 30lbs of filleted halibut after our recent trip. And previous salmon trips were even more!
I highly, highly recommend taking a trip with Bluefin if you want to catch fish and listen to some hilarious stories from Pat.

Bluefin Fishing Adventures is great, we went out twice in a month and couldn't believe the amount of fish we were catching. Great location, nice boat, friendly operator and very knowledgeable. Lots of laughs were had.

The expertise of our guide Kyle Poirier made this a wonderful experience. As a life time inland fisherman I was full of questions and all were answered. The boat was equipped with 2 new Merc engines and all fishing gear! Oh ya we also caught max size Halibut allowed by regulations. I highly recommend This experience!!

We had an incredible day with Captain KYLE.
It was a windy , wavy day. We felt really comfortable in the 27 foot boat “ In a meeting”
Captain Kyle was a wealth of Knowledge and experience. On the water his entire life and experience as a commercial fisherman, we felt totally confident it would be a great day.
Kyle has Great sense of humour and his focus
Finding the fish 🎣 for you to catch.
We got fish!!! It was awesome.

Actually went around September 2019, round' the 7th. Went with my Grandpa, Dad and brother and I can say it was a blast!!!
Captain Patrick definitely knows his way around the area! Pat is also a charismatic and fun captain to not only fish with but to talk with! The Salmon didn't put up much of a fight as I'd hoped (maybe because the boat was still moving) but the fishing was great regardless!!
We caught some pretty hefty Chinook Salmon, a couple of Spring fish, and a startlingly red/orange Rockfish which a lucky eagle carried away. Being out there out in the early morning in the boat, with a nice cool breeze coming in and the mountains off in the distance... absolutely beautiful.
Once we were done fishing, Pat showed us his Crab traps and let us have some! Truly a great guy and I recommend his Fishing Charter above any of the others.

Went out halibut fishing with Captain Pat and had a great time! It was slow at first, but then we had steady action after about the first half hour. Our family caught 5 halibut, with the biggest being 45lbs. We saw a grey whale, many harbour porpoises, and a sea lion on the way in. Great adventure for the whole family, highly recommend!!

We chose Bluefin Fishing Charters for our Sooke salmon charter based on a friend’s recommendation and we’re so happy we did.
A BC fishing charter was a must on our vacation wishlist and we had a thoroughly enjoyable morning on the water, taking home our limit of coho and pink salmon.
Pat is a friendly, knowledgeable guide, more than willing to share wisdom gained from 30 years on the water, the boat is roomy, clean and well-equipped, and we were even treated to a catch of fresh crab to take home and enjoy with our salmon dinner.
Thank you to Pat and Bluefin - we will definitely be back ... hopefully to try halibut fishing next time!
