More
The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is a community museum that explores the human and natural heritage of the region from Sooke to Port Renfrew. The museum also operates the local visitor information centre for the region. We have both exhibits in the main museum building and around the grounds. In the Summer we are open 7 days a week. In the off season we are closed Mondays and most Stat holidays. We also usually are closed over Christmas and the first week of January. There is a touch screen system outside the main entrance for after hour accommodation inquiries and maps for pick-up after hours. The museum holds various special event during the year, has a gift shop with local arts & crafts, plus can do special meals for pre-booked tour groups.

Most visitor centers are boring. Not this one! WOW, they have everything from a very complete gift shop, to a beautiful museum. Oh, did I mention they were very friendly and give out maps and good advice.

This Museum is well layed out showing eras of Sooke from industry to fashions of their day and also a archaeological section on the native Indians who lived there.

Small but worth your time, and of interest to you if you're the sort of person who wants to be in Sooke. Well laid-out historical collection covering ordinary life and also interactions with the Indian tribes.

The Museum grounds is a series of structures and displays that is easily covered in an hour or two but it is even more fun on "Market" days when local crafts people and food vendors visit with their products.

If you want to learn of the heritage of the region, particularly First Nations People and logging activities this is the place to visit. A small but very informative museum that also hosts an evening market on Thursday's during the summer.
