To be honest, the idea of driving across the sea bed at low tide worried me. As a prairie girl, I have only an academic understanding of tides. But a local shop owner explained the timing for the week we were in town. We drove to the parking area on the mainland. Minister's Island was still an island, but the... More

This is such a unique place to visit. It is the nineteenth century summer home of Sir William Van Horne, the president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It can only be accessed by car a few hours a day when the tide is low. The island is beautiful with its rugged shoreline and rolling hills. There walking trails to explore... More

Until informed by a tourism person, I was not aware of this site. A piece of Canadian history of which I was not aware. A beautiful place to visit for its buildings, furniture, walking trails (20 km) and the thrill of driving across the Bay bottom to reach the island. Definitely requires a couple of hours to tour the buildings... More

Although we did not take the island tour, the concept is fascinating. The tide drops the water level by 17 feet, revealing a road to drive across to reach the island! Just make sure you know when the tide comes back in or you will have to wait for low tide again.

Very fascinating historic property, concerning the original owner and architectural styles of buildings. Caution to those with allergies -- house and barn required the use of my asthma inhaler.

I love history so this place was amazing! The property is beautiful. I loved that you had to cross to access the island at low tides.

Just getting to the island is a bit of a thrill, as you have to drive across a gravel bar that is only accessible at low tide. So be sure to pay attention to the tide schedule. For only $10, you get full access to the island and it's well worth exploring. Be sure to see the barn, the carriage... More

Great spot to spend an afternoon. It can be cold and windy so dress accordingly. Lots to see and very friendly staff to give tours.

You can only get to Minister's Island by traveling across a strip of sand when the Bay of Fundy tides are low, which is cool in and of itself. Almost anyone in St. Andrews can tell you when you will be able to get there. The site offers tours of a 50-room "cottage" that was built by William Van Horne,... More

it's great fun to drive to this attraction over the gravel bar that is underwater except at low tide. I was here a few years ago, and the house is significantly more furnished that it was back then. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and added to the enjoyment of the house itself. Allow time to wander around the grounds... More
