I am still in a time warp after my recent visit to Minister's Island. I will go back several times. We had only 2.5 hours and it was not long enough. It is absolutely spectacular. We wandered about the rooms, which are not cordoned off, and it was so REAL. You are not just looking from a distance, you're actually... More

I decided to try at cycle the 7km trail around the island. You definitely need a mountain bike as parts of the trail are quite challenging. If you want to explore as well, get there at the opening for low tide which gives you plenty of time before you have to leave. You can easily start wandering the beaches and... More

Minister's Island can be driven to from the mainland via a narrow beach causeway only during "low tide" periods making this an "experience" in itself. There are hiking trails available throughout as well as a private home to explore (fee imposed)

The story of the railroad builder who built himself this summer home on a private island is fascinating. Check the tide schedule as you will need to drive to the island and back when the tide is low. We joined a tour of the main house and then strolled around the island. Very happy to see that the property is... More

Great place to wander through. Interesting. Great view. We didn't have time for the tour so just looked around on our own.

How many places in the world can you drive to across the ocean floor? This in itself makes it worth the trip to Ministers Island! Once there outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking or biking the beautiful coach trails that criss-cross the island. Nature lovers can enjoy the native flowers growing in the fields and the horses running in the pastures.... More

When the tide is low you can drive over to Minister's Island and visit the old estate and grounds of the former owner and railroad baron. The mansion is huge, interesting, and in the process of being restored. There are hiking trails but no concessions. If you bring a picnic meal you'll have a unique opportunity to dine overlooking the... More

Unique access with a gravel road that only appears at low tide however its essentially an old turn of the century summer home (mansion) very similar to McLaughlins Parkwood Estate and Hearst castle in California. A refuge for the ultra rich in the early 1900s.

Travelling to Minister's Island is a treat and an excellent activity to do while in St. Andrews. It is a pretty cool experience to drive across the sea floor to reach the island. While the definition of seafloor might be a little misleading, the extend of the tides here make this a very unique experience. Once on the island, the... More
