About
Rinca Island, Komodo Island and Padar Island are the main islands of Komodo National Park. Famous for some of the world's best dive sites and their popular inhabitant - the Komodo dragon - the area attracts thousands of tourists each year. Treks on Rinca Island start from the ticket office at Loh Buaya. You also have the option to choose between three trails. The shortest trek takes 30 minutes. It is an easy, shaded walk that passes an artificial waterhole before ascending to a small hill with a view over the bay. The one-hour medium trek winds between dragon nests and out into the sunshine across an exposed savannah that is studded with lontar palms. For the best opportunity to see dragons and their prey, choose the two-hour trek past a permanent waterhole and across steep, exposed slopes that offer breathtaking views

Great place to meet komodo dragons. Actually they are everywhere in reception area. Need to be very careful as they are not friendly pets. Be aware and walk in group just next to your guide when taking tour. It is not possible to miss dragons there and they are absolutely not locked in any cages etc. Great guide service. Beautiful views.

We visited Rinca in the afternoon after scuba diving with Blue Marlin Komodo via the same boat from Labuan Bajo. We saw many dragons lazy after killing a buffalo that morning- bad luck missing the action but it did make for lots of great photos posing with these gentle giants! Also saw several young dragons running around the trails and even one that surprised us in the forest! Thanks to the excellent local rangers who help conserve this fragile ecosystem for future visitors!

The only second island after Komodo providing home to Komodo Dragons. We visited it before the Komodo Islands and were lucky to see amazing and dangerous Dragons near the admin areas. This island is not as exciting as Komodo Islands

This island is only visited for the purpose of sighting Komodo in there natural surroundings.

We would love to inform you that the the entrance fees to enter Komodo & Rinca islands in 2020 totally normal.

There was an issue to increase the price till USD 1000$ but its only rumour.

Warmest Regards.

We arrived at Rinca Island at around 9:30am. The scenery on the boat ride to the island was absolutely stunning.

We saw 14 Komodo Dragons in total. All of these were seen close to the rangers office at the entrance, and we did not see any further dragons during the trek. Most of the dragons were resting, but there were a few moving around, including one which went to drink some water from a stream. If you want to see the dragons being active, it is better to get there early before it gets too hot! We also saw some water buffalo and monkeys, but these were also close to the rangers office.

There is a choice of walking a short, medium or long trail. We opted for the medium trail through the jungle and found it to be quite tough in the heat. Apart from the odd water buffalo, we didn't really see anything else during the trek. There are dragon nests to see, and a nice view point (I think that these can be seen on all the trails), but that's it. I wish I had chosen the short trail. The ranger also walked extremely fast during the trek which made me feel like he wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible, and was difficult to pause for water, photographs etc, or to try and spot other wildlife.

Many Komodo dragons were there but resting alongside the kitchen area which is very near to the ticketing counter. So you won’t see the dragons in their natural habitat.

Due to time constraint of our tour we did only 15 minutes trek in the jungle and we did not see any more dragons on the way. The Komodo dragons here were smaller than that on the Komodo island.

To this Rinca Island, we need to take a boat from Labuan Bajo. Beside Komodo Island, Rinca Island is also a place to see Komodo. In this Island, the probability we see Komodo is higher than at Komodo Island. To go around the Island, we must use local ranger. They assist us and protect us from Komodo, please follow ranger instruction. There are 3 routes, short, medium and long. Normally people take short route and take a short rest at top of the hill, enjoy the view to the sea.

It’s well worth the extra stops. Take your time to hike around with a guide. The dragons, like most big animals, don’t do a whole lot but sleep. Don’t expect too much action, especially during the heat of midday.

Rinca is definitely a better place to see bigger komodo dragons compare to the komodo island itself. The enrance fee is discriminatory against foreigners which is much more than the indonesians.
