In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

This a fun unique experience. You are surrounded by "paintings " and music. The paintings are projected on the floors, walls, and ceiling of the quarry. The paintings are constantly changing. It's beautiful!

Stopped here on a recent trip and did not think it would be that interesting. The program lasts about 35 minutes and showcases artists work on the quarry walls. The program is designed such that you can stand in one location and see several artworks form different angles. Really interesting site and not to be missed during your travels.

Breathtaking, creative, beautiful work of art! The underground stone quarry would be worthwhile the visit on its own and the addition of the lumieres production is pure art and a journey into the imagination

We took the bus from Avignon to Les Baux to visit the Chateau ruins and the Carrieres de Lumieres. As the bus drops near the Chateau ruins, we visited it first. I would recommend the opposite - go to Carrieres first. It is a short walk down the hill. Take in the full 45 minute show; we only had time... More

Originally we believed this to be a possible side trip for the Les Baux destination and found it to be marvelous! A 50 minute music and art audio visual show inside a large enclosed quarry is a stunning surprise! Starting with a 3 minute dimly lighted entrance inviting you into this immense enclosed quarry provides the opportunity to see the... More

I have been here twice - once in 2015 and one last month. Beautiful concept, beautiful place and as the exhibition name suggests an enjoyable immersion experience. Loved it !! The art, music and quarry combination creates magic. If you are in Les Baux de Provence then don't miss it. Will I go again ? YES.

Imagine a huge cave (5.000 m2), previously a stone quarry, where you can look at thousands of pictures, paintings, on the walls, on the ceiling and on the floor! It's just as if you were INSIDE the masterpieces, with music and beautiful effects. Remarkable and highly beautiful

We ran out of things to do in the area and so decided to visit the quarry. My wife was so impressed with the music and videos that we sat through them twice. An amazing blend of old and new, the images and music were quite enjoyable. I recommend this as a good thing to do in this area.

This was an amazing experience, total immersion in art choreographed to music, from classical to Led Zeppelin. A little disorienting at first getting used to all the movement and different levels of light, but there are places to sit and observe. One of the highlights of our trip to southern France!
