In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

Truly a fantastic experience. Absolutely recommend! Well worth a day trip, we would definitely visit again if we were to travel to Provence again.

When it was first mentioned to us, we had some reservations but these were dispelled the moment we entered the quarry. It is an experience like no other. We go to Provence every year and for the last 5 years have made sure to include a visit as it is a new show every year. We have never been disappointed.... More

really creative, beautiful, inspiring experience. I would say, a must-do when in the area. Very easy to do without advance tickets, at least when we were there in September.

Fascinating use of the old quarry to have what I guess you would have called a 'sound and light' show a few years ago. We saw the end of the Chagall exhibition, which was more animated than I had expected - using images from Chagall's paintings, animated against a varied musical score. Well worth a visit. I would hope the... More

What can I say, unbelievable. I can say I am not a person who would go to art galleries but wow this is a must see. I did not want to leave you feel like you are part of the exhibit. I just wanted to sit as the artwork was projected all around me even on the floor.

Inside this “theater” you will find massive rectangular “rooms,” five stories high, formerly a limestone quarry, filled with giant columns throughout holding the structure together. These planes of white rock, including the floor and ceilings, are perfect as giant screens, on which the most creative minds in France project movies timed to exquisite music. There is nothing like this anywhere... More

We are not a very art inclined family and the idea of a light and sound art exhibit wasn't very appealing to us. Frankly we mostly wanted to see the quarry. However, this was the most spectacular art exhibit any of us have ever seen!!! It was engaging and easy for art Luddites such as ourselves to appreciate and enjoy.... More

Nestled in the middle of a national park, with stunning views on the way, the Carrieres de Lumieres is a well curated art exhibit inside a huge stone quarry. It's hard to explain but think of a 360 degree art show, set to music. when I went in September, it was showcasing Marc Chagall paintings. It was a serene and... More

In winter it is easy to drive past the entrance on the road as all the car parks of the winding roads are empty but this is a good time to come here. The vast quarried chambers have been excellently transformed into a stunning canvas onto which computer enhanced and animated artworks by many of the great artists (exhibitions change).... More

This year's show is on Chagal and as such is a bit darker (in brightness) than previous shows, it makes sense when you think about his art, but initially surprised me The music selection with the visuals are sublime Make sure you look at several surfaces because there is always more than can fit on one "panel" going on
