In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

We are not a very art inclined family and the idea of a light and sound art exhibit wasn't very appealing to us. Frankly we mostly wanted to see the quarry. However, this was the most spectacular art exhibit any of us have ever seen!!! It was engaging and easy for art Luddites such as ourselves to appreciate and enjoy.... More

Nestled in the middle of a national park, with stunning views on the way, the Carrieres de Lumieres is a well curated art exhibit inside a huge stone quarry. It's hard to explain but think of a 360 degree art show, set to music. when I went in September, it was showcasing Marc Chagall paintings. It was a serene and... More

In winter it is easy to drive past the entrance on the road as all the car parks of the winding roads are empty but this is a good time to come here. The vast quarried chambers have been excellently transformed into a stunning canvas onto which computer enhanced and animated artworks by many of the great artists (exhibitions change).... More

This year's show is on Chagal and as such is a bit darker (in brightness) than previous shows, it makes sense when you think about his art, but initially surprised me The music selection with the visuals are sublime Make sure you look at several surfaces because there is always more than can fit on one "panel" going on

We were put onto this by our Airbnb hosts. It was much better than they said and we already had high expectations. Easy to find. The most amazing acoustics and light show. We watched it through twice. It was so easy to get completely lost in the moment that the rest of the world did not exist for that short... More

My husband and I saw the Chagall show and the Alice in Wonderland short in June 2016. It was nothing short of incredible. My husband is not usually very into art but was truly moved by the experience. We walked hand in hand throughout the space just getting totally swept up in the projections and the music, it was a... We visited the last week of November 2016 and got to enjoy the Marc Chagall projections as well as a short Alice in Wonderland show. The location alone is magnificent just to walk around but once the show begins, it is unbelievably cool. You can either sit and enjoy from one of many angles or you can walk around to... More

This is definitely not your ordinary movie in a movie theatre - the art by Chagall is shown on the walls in a huge limestone quarry that is amazing to see and hear. It is an artistic creation of film and music in a unique space that is absolutely and without question the most beautiful show I have ever seen.... More

Saw Chagall sound and light show in the most amazing limestone caves with 20, 30 and 40 foot high ceilings and double and triple-movie-theatre sized walls. The entire space came alive with a visual and audio experience that would make the Super Bowel Half-time look like middle-school amateur hour. In the middle of the second show ... the volume goes... Very difficult to explain this concept in words. It is a feast for the eyes & ears. You are observing work or art projected on stone walls by laser light with amazing music to enhance the experience. It is definitely a must to see once or twice in your lifetime.
